Master Le Anh Tu, lecturer of the Faculty of Public Relations - Communication, University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City, said that although the Covid-19 pandemic has receded, that period of time is still an unforgettable memory for the people of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and humanity in general. "In those days, people often mentioned 'quarantine' and '5K message'. The departure and loss came very quickly, the atmosphere at that time was extremely tense. However, in the midst of the epidemic, everyone still tried to stay optimistic and united. From the frontline forces to each citizen, everyone tried their best to overcome the pandemic together," he shared.
Expressing his agreement with the policy of Ho Chi Minh City to reserve the "golden" land at No. 1 Ly Thai To (Vuon Lai Ward) to build a memorial for Covid-19 victims, Master Le Anh Tu said that this is a humane project with many profound meanings. "This project not only has a memorial meaning but can also become a community living space, where people often visit. I hope this project will have a lot of trees, a quiet space in the middle of a noisy urban area, helping to balance the space when the city already has too many high-rise buildings. It is possible to build in combination with natural elements, trees, water like the Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc monument park (intersection of Nguyen Dinh Chieu - Cach Mang Thang Tam), where people can come to visit, even exercise every morning. I believe that every time they pass by, people will feel that this is a project containing humane values, recalling a difficult period that the city has gone through," he said.
According to Master Le Anh Tu, memorials should be built with a simple, sustainable spirit, expressing solemnity and serenity. "With memorials for natural disasters and epidemics, the important thing is emotion and depth, there is no need to be too elaborate. It is possible to engrave the names of some people, or leave symbolic marks so that when entering, everyone remembers the difficult period and everyone worked together and shared to have a good life like today," he expressed.
In addition, many students in Ho Chi Minh City agree with the view that the memorial for Covid-19 victims should not only be a place of remembrance but also become a public space that is close and convenient for people. Student Nguyen Hoang Linh - University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) proposed to arrange spacious walkways, stone benches and resting areas, so that people can relax, walk or chat.
Tran Nguyen Gia Ky, a student at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, proposed that the project should be built with many amenities such as Gia Dinh Park (Hanh Thong Ward), taking advantage of the large space and many trees, combining amenities such as outdoor exercise areas, playgrounds, community living spaces, both commemorating and serving the entertainment and health needs of surrounding residents. However, this student emphasized the desire for the project to remind the spirit of mutual love, inspire the younger generation about solidarity and overcoming difficulties, and at the same time connect the community through useful daily activities.
