According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the livestock development situation in the first months of the year in Dak Nong was stable.

The province currently has a herd of about 489,700 pigs, reaching over 87% of the annual plan; a herd of 28,300 cows, reaching 101% of the annual plan; a herd of over 4,000 buffaloes, reaching 97% of the annual plan; a herd of 36,000 goats, reaching nearly 88% of the annual plan; and a herd of 3.1 million poultry, reaching 93.7% of the annual plan.

In the first quarter, Dak Nong had a herd of 36,000 goats, reaching nearly 88% of the yearly plan.

Although authorities at all levels, functional sectors and professional forces have stepped up measures to prevent diseases in livestock, in April, a dangerous disease occurred in pigs. This is posing higher and stricter requirements to minimize risks.

Specifically, in early April 2025, Dak Nong had an outbreak of African swine fever in Dak Lao commune, Dak Mil district, with 57 sick pigs weighing over 1,600kg.

Immediately after the outbreak was detected, local authorities quickly isolated and contained the outbreak. The outbreak has now been contained and has not spread. This is the first outbreak in 2025 to appear in Dak Nong province.

About 10 days later, the disease reappeared in a household in Nam N'dir commune, Krong No district. Seven pigs with a total weight of 1,360 kg were infected and had to be destroyed.

According to Mr. Ngo Xuan Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, both outbreaks of African swine fever have been controlled by specialized agencies and localities and have not spread widely.

However, this also warns that the risk of disease outbreaks always exists, causing immediate damage if farmers are subjective, negligent, and not vigilant.

Mr. Dong affirmed that the agricultural sector continues to well implement the directions of the Provincial People's Committee on synchronous, drastic and effective deployment of solutions to prevent and control livestock and poultry diseases.

The Provincial People's Committee requests all levels, sectors and livestock farmers not to be subjective about African swine fever.

The Department of Agriculture, in coordination with agencies, units, and People's Committees of districts and Gia Nghia City, continues to resolutely and synchronously implement measures to prevent and control animal diseases in accordance with the provisions of the Veterinary Law and directives from the Central and local governments.

Animal quarantine points entering and leaving the province will be coordinated by functional forces to promptly detect and strictly handle violations.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment focuses on directing, organizing, guiding, urging, and inspecting the prevention and control of animal diseases and proposing effective solutions for disease prevention and control.

The Department coordinates with the People's Committees of districts and Gia Nghia City to proactively monitor the epidemic situation closely, detect early, warn and direct timely handling of outbreaks, and prevent the disease from spreading widely.

Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has prepared enough supplies and vaccines to promptly distribute to districts and Gia Nghia City to implement epidemic prevention.

The department has prepared enough supplies, chemicals, and vaccines to promptly distribute to districts and Gia Nghia City to deploy vaccination and disinfection throughout the province.

By the end of April 2025, the Department of Agriculture and localities had vaccinated livestock in the province. The whole province had vaccinated over 14,300 doses of lumpy skin disease and foot-and-mouth disease vaccines for livestock and dogs.

Also according to the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the People's Committees of districts and Gia Nghia City to absolutely not be subjective or negligent in implementing tasks of preventing and controlling animal diseases, especially dangerous infectious diseases such as African swine fever, avian influenza, lumpy skin disease, rabies...

In recent years, African swine fever has caused much damage to small households in Dak Nong.

All levels and sectors should step up propaganda and guide livestock farmers to practice biosafety farming, regularly carry out general cleaning, disinfection, and detoxification of the environment to destroy pathogens; and supplement nutrients to improve livestock's resistance.

Livestock farmers need to proactively vaccinate and take measures to prevent dangerous infectious diseases for livestock according to the instructions of specialized agencies.
