Quietly cultivating knowledge in the mountains and forests of the Northwest
Every weekend evening, at his familiar work corner, the computer screen of Lieutenant Do Van Linh (born in 1999, in Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bien province) lights up. That is when the police “teacher” begins his journey of sowing seeds of knowledge, opening up learning opportunities for poor students through free online classes.
Lieutenant Do Van Linh is currently organizing two free review classes for the 2025 high school graduation exam, with two subjects: Literature and History. Each class consists of 20 students, most of whom come from remote areas and are in especially difficult circumstances.
“My goal when opening the zero-cost class is to support 12th graders in remote areas and those in difficult circumstances. In October 2024, when information about the class was posted on social media, I received more than 200 applications from students. Many people wanted to join because they loved the teaching method or wanted to learn more, however, to ensure the quality of each class, I selected 20 students who best met the criteria. For those who did not have the opportunity to join the class, I supported them through the fanpage “Reviewing with Linhteacher99”. Here, I share vivid videos , short, easy-to-understand articles on literature and history topics, helping students to review effectively at home,” Linh said.
Lieutenant Do Van Linh said that when the zero-cost class first started operating, he encountered many difficulties. Although there was no cost to open the class, he had to spend a lot of effort and time to learn effective teaching methods, build appropriate lesson plans and update the latest essay topics.
Along with that, he has to constantly balance his work schedule with teaching time and maintaining the fanpage. Every night, after his shift, Linh diligently records lectures, answers questions, and updates review materials for students.
Do Van Linh shared that one of the biggest difficulties when teaching online to students in remote areas is the instability of the network connection, which sometimes affects the students' ability to absorb the lessons. To overcome this, he always tries to teach and correct lessons in the most detailed way, ensuring that students understand each content clearly.
For Lieutenant Do Van Linh, teaching is not simply about imparting knowledge but also a journey to open minds, nurture souls, and help students realize their own values through literary works. “Literature is anthropology” is the guiding principle in each of his lectures.
“Studying for exams is one part, but more deeply, studying is to become a human being, to empathize, to contribute and build the country with heart and intelligence,” Linh said.
From his practical work, Lieutenant Do Van Linh understands the difficulties of students in mountainous areas, especially the lack of study materials for the exam preparation process. Therefore, he always tries to bring inspiration to students to love literature by transforming works into vivid images and videos, with concise, thoughtful and unique formulas.
“In addition to teaching knowledge, I also organize extracurricular activities, inviting inspirational people to interact and share learning experiences with students. Recently, the class had a special conversation with Pham Van Minh Thanh, the second prize winner of Block C00, including 3 subjects: Literature (9.25 points), History (10 points) and Geography (10 points) of Bac Giang province in the 2024 national high school graduation exam, and is also a content creator with more than 250,000 followers on the TikTok platform,” Do Van Linh shared.
“Life is to give, not just to receive.”
Few people know that before donning the police uniform and becoming a devoted teacher, Do Van Linh was a poor but determined student. Born into a farming family in Nam Po district (Dien Bien province), Linh's childhood was associated with a lack of living and learning conditions.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung (currently teaching at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Dien Bien province, Linh's homeroom teacher) was moved: "During 19 years of teaching, I have met many talented and determined students, but Linh is still the name that left the deepest impression on me. When I was her homeroom teacher, I knew that Linh did not have a favorable starting point like many of her peers. Therefore, I always tried to support her as much as possible, from documents, books to small daily encouragements.
Not letting down the teachers, she made efforts, persevered in her studies, and asserted herself with many remarkable achievements: Gold Medal in History at the Competition for Excellent Students of Specialized High Schools in the Coastal and Northern Delta regions in 2016; Second Prize in History in the National Competition for Excellent Students of High Schools in the 2016-2017 school year; First Prize in History for 3 consecutive years in the Provincial Competition for Excellent Students... And I am very proud to know that in 2021 she became the Valedictorian of the Social Security Protection Investigation major of the People's Security Academy.
To me, those are not just achievements, but a living proof of Linh's determination to rise from poverty with admirable inner strength and determination."
Ms. Dung said that over the years, Linh has been regularly invited to speak, inspire and support the History team of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Dien Bien province) in the national excellent student competition. The devoted help of his teachers that year quietly planted in the heart of the little student the desire “To live is to give, not just to receive”. And today, Linh continues to sow the seeds of love, inspiring his students, just like the way he received when he was a student. He not only imparts knowledge but also teaches them how to rise up and share love with the community.
Born in Gia Lai province, growing up in a farming family with 3 younger siblings, Ksor H Ung (born in 2007, Gia Rai ethnic group) soon realized the hardships of life. Understanding that only education can help him change his future, he always strives to study, nurturing his dream of contributing to building his homeland. Thanks to the free class organized by Mr. Do Van Linh, Ksor H Ung has more opportunities to access new knowledge, strengthening his preparation for the upcoming high school graduation exam.
“Each lesson with Mr. Linh not only helps me understand the lesson better, but also makes me feel the warm sharing and companionship. For students in remote areas like me, studying with him is a precious opportunity. He teaches very well, lively, easy to understand and always listens to us patiently. In the future, I dream of becoming a Literature teacher, opening a free class for children in the highlands, to continue the kindness that he has sown in our hearts today,” Ksor H. Ung confided.

Like Ksor H Ung, Chau Dang Kim Xuan, a student born in 2007 from An Giang, accidentally learned about Mr. Linh's free class through social media. Just a short announcement but it touched exactly what she was looking for. Without hesitation, Xuan immediately registered. For her, this is not just a class, but a door that opens to hope.
Xuan is the only child in a family of five children. Her father died early, leaving her mother to support her children's education. In such difficult circumstances, she soon realized that education was the only way to change her fate.
“Literature is not my strong point. I wanted to take extra classes but conditions did not allow it. When I learned about Mr. Linh's free class, I was very moved. To me, it was like a miracle. He not only taught us Literature, but also taught us how to live kindly, how to love, and how to think for others. I am truly grateful to him. He was the one who gave me the dream of wearing the People's Police uniform,” Xuan shared.
Not only devoted to his students, Lieutenant Do Van Linh also constantly affirms his expertise and professionalism as a People's Police soldier through many awards at competitions. Photo: NVCC |
Lieutenant Do Van Linh said that in the future, he hopes to develop the class not only in scale but also in depth and quality. At the same time, he plans to find more like-minded people to build more diverse and lively teaching content, maintaining a stable class even when he has unexpected work.
The emotional Literature lessons and the free, unpretentious exam review hours are proof of the passionate heart of Lieutenant Do Van Linh. That journey not only beautifies the ideal of “Forgetting oneself for the country, serving the people” of the People’s Public Security soldiers, but also sows the seeds of dreams of knowing how to rise up and live a life that is fragrant for the world.
