In her latest speech, Chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matvienko believes that a new effort will be made to start negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine in 2025.
“I believe that the likelihood of a real effort to start negotiations and exchanges on this topic in 2025 is much higher than before,” said Valentina Matvienko, but stressed that this was her personal assessment.
At the same time, the Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia stressed that there are currently a number of conditions under which Moscow will not negotiate with Kiev. In particular, the outcome of the negotiations cannot be agreements on an “unclear status” or a freeze on the conflict.

In this regard, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the possibility of negotiations in 2025, stated that “everything will depend on the development of events”: “It is important for us to achieve the set goals. We are continuing a special military operation. In any case, Russia will ensure its interests in the situation around Ukraine”.
Russia crosses Oskol River, establishes more bridgeheads
Telegram channel Readovka reported that one of the notable events on December 2 was that the Russian army continued to cross Oskol in another place, establishing a new bridgehead.
The Russian military’s diversionary move in Kupyansk has clearly paid off. The previously weakened defenses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) along the western bank of Oskol have become increasingly apparent. Ukraine has been forced to withdraw its troops to defensive positions inside the city.
A series of somewhat hasty decisions by the AFU allowed the Russian army to create another bridgehead. This new position was located on the western bank of Oskol, south of the village of Dvurechnaya.
The AFU is likely to lose control of the town of Dvurechnaya, as Russian units are trying to expand their control. The emergence of a new Russian zone of control on the west bank of the Oskol River means that the opponents in the village of Dvurechnaya may face a supplementary attack from the south.
The AFU had concentrated its forces in Kupyansk, so the village was effectively deserted. In addition, the AFU was almost completely isolated in the populated area, as the routes leading north and south were interrupted.
Thus, the Russian army has two official bridgeheads on the west bank of Oskol. This can be achieved by capturing the village of Dalneye and the surrounding area to create a breakthrough into the urban settlement of Dvurechnaya. The AFU has very little time to take countermeasures given its limited resources and the situation will continue to worsen in the coming days.
Russia attempts to attack AFU in Kharkov
According to Rybar, the situation remains tense in the Kharkov (Slobozhansky) direction. The AFU is trying to launch attacks in some areas with armored vehicles and UAVs. Over the past two months, the Russian military has inflicted serious damage on the AFU in the region with almost overwhelming superiority in firepower.
On the western flank near Hlyboke, fierce battles took place. The AFU could not enter the settlement as Russian UAVs with anti-jamming capabilities were delivering precise strikes at the Ukrainian attack directions. At the same time, Russia also carried out attacks in the Zelene area to distract the enemy.
Throughout November, the AFU launched several attacks in the Volchansk area. The Russians withdrew from some forward positions due to supply difficulties and entrenched themselves on the 2nd line of defense.
The Volchansk synthetic plant is now considered to be in the “gray zone”. After the Ukrainian units were driven out, Russian assault units carried out several raids, but did not seize it, with the aim of harassment and attrition. As a result of urban battles, the northern part of the town of Volchansk was almost completely destroyed.
Also on December 2, AFU continued to attack civilian infrastructure in the Belgorod region. During the day, Russian UAV attacks on military sites in the Kharkov region were also recorded.
