This is the content affirmed by the Deputy Minister of Development Cooperation of the Netherlands, the Deputy Minister, Ambassador of Climate Change of the Republic of Korea and the President and CEO of the World Resources Institute to the Head of the Vietnamese Delegation, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh at bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the P4G Summit 2023 held in Bogota, Colombia on September 22 and 23, 2023.
At the meeting with Mr. Ole Thonke, Deputy Minister of Development Cooperation of Denmark, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh asked Denmark, the country that initiated the establishment of P4G, and Deputy Minister Ole Thonke personally, to share experiences and support Vietnam in hosting the P4G Summit 2025.
The Minister sincerely thanked Denmark for supporting Vietnam's proposal to host the P4G Summit and hoped that Denmark's experience in preparing and hosting the P4G Summit 2018 would help Vietnam fulfill this responsibility.
Deputy Minister Ole Thonke said that Denmark, together with the World Resources Institute, will actively support Vietnam and share Denmark's experience in preparing and organizing the Conference.
Regarding the cooperation between the two countries, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh and Deputy Minister Ole Thonke were pleased to note that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971, the two countries have achieved many important cooperation results, but there is still much potential for cooperation, especially in areas of mutual interest such as energy conversion, renewable energy development, especially offshore wind power.
The two countries are moving towards the adoption of a Joint Declaration on the Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership. This will be a strong commitment by the two countries to the goal of sustainable development, building a circular economy and green growth, and responding to climate change.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh expressed his belief that the Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership will help further promote bilateral cooperation in the fields of greenhouse gas emission reduction, climate change adaptation, and equitable energy transition, especially in the development of offshore wind power projects; I also hope that Denmark will step up its support for Vietnam to connect with financial institutions and credit organizations capable of providing financial and credit support to Vietnam as well as professional and technological support, and capacity building, including management capacity, so that Vietnam can implement its commitments and global initiatives on emission reduction and climate change adaptation.
At the meeting with Deputy Minister and Korean Climate Change Ambassador Hyoeun Jenny Kim, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh hoped that Korea, with its experience in successfully organizing the second P4G Summit in 2021, would support Vietnam in fulfilling its role as host of the fourth P4G Summit in 2025.
Sharing the proposed contents of P4G promoted at the 2025 Summit, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh said that Vietnam will prioritize focusing on current issues of global concern, including: ensuring food security associated with hunger eradication and poverty reduction; managing, exploiting and sustainably using transboundary water resources; building and operating an early warning system, monitoring the impacts of climate change; promoting net zero finance and equitable energy transition; developing low-carbon smart agriculture; developing a plastic circular economy, contributing to the implementation of the Global Agreement on Plastic Pollution.
Deputy Minister and Ambassador of Climate Change of the Republic of Korea Hyoeun Jenny Kim said that Korea is ready to share its experiences and support Vietnam in successfully organizing the P4G Summit 2025 as Korea previously supported Vietnam in organizing the APEC Summit 2006. At the same time, Korea will share its experiences in preparing and organizing the P4G Summit 2021 with the participation of all ministries, sectors, and business sectors.
The Korean Deputy Minister and Ambassador of Climate Change believes that the successful organization of the P4G 2025 Summit will contribute to promoting the green transition in Vietnam in both production and consumption. Korean enterprises will be very interested and will actively participate and contribute to this event.
Regarding bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh and Deputy Minister and Korean Ambassador of Climate Change Hyoeun Jenny Kim agreed that the two sides should soon organize the first meeting of the Joint Working Group to implement the Framework Agreement on Climate Change Cooperation signed in 2021, focusing on discussing and proposing practical and effective joint cooperation activities and projects.
On this occasion, Deputy Minister and Ambassador for Climate Change Hyoun Jenny Kim also shared that Korea is considering the possibility of joining the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), considering it a new model of cooperation between countries to promote climate action globally.
At the meeting with Minister Dang Quoc Khanh, President and Director of the World Resources Institute (WRI) Ani Dasgupta and CEO of P4G Robyn McGuckin also affirmed that WRI and P4G will work closely with Vietnam to develop a plan to organize the P4G Summit 2025.
The P4G Executive Director proposed the signing of an MOU on cooperation between P4G and Vietnam in organizing the Conference as a basis for P4G and partner countries and sponsor countries to implement cooperation activities and support Vietnam, including: proposing discussion topics, financial contributions...
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh stated that Vietnam is committed to working closely with WRI and P4G from the planning stage, content development, and program development of the Conference, which will focus on the contents that Vietnam prioritizes to promote according to the pillars of P4G including water, food, and climate. The Minister stated that Vietnam hopes that the P4G 2025 Summit will not only be a forum to promote public-private partnerships but also promote cooperation between countries in building and implementing institutions and policies to promote green transformation and green growth. The Minister hopes that WRI and P4G will work with Vietnam to carefully prepare for the organization of the Conference, attracting the participation of senior leaders of P4G participating countries and partner countries, international organizations, financial institutions and businesses, thereby having a successful P4G Summit, contributing to the global common effort to address the challenges caused by climate change and environmental pollution.
As assigned by the Prime Minister, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh, on behalf of the Government of Vietnam, attended the Summit of the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) with the theme "Transformational Partnership for Sustainability".
Participating in the Vietnamese delegation attending the Conference were representatives of the Ministries of Planning and Investment, Foreign Affairs, Science and Technology, Natural Resources and Environment, and the Vietnam Federation of Industry and Commerce.
