1. Ribes
Located on the beautiful southwest coast of Jutland, the picturesque town of Ribe was founded in the early 8th century. The town has well preserved historical monuments dating back to the Middle Ages.
The magnificent Ribe Cathedral, first built in 860 AD, still stands today and the Ribe Viking Center is a living museum dedicated to Viking culture.
2. Dragør
Despite its location just a short drive from Copenhagen, the town of Dragør on the island of Amager is almost a world away from the hustle and bustle of the capital.
The town dates back to the 12th century and was once one of the country's most important fishing ports. Its past is celebrated at the Dragør Museum and an annual festival in August.
3. Aeroskobing
Nestled on the beautiful island of Ærø in the Baltic Sea, Ærøskøbing was recently voted one of the most beautiful towns in the country.
Its quaint cobbled streets, picturesque squares and romantic 18th-century houses have earned it the nickname “Denmark's fairytale town”.
4. Hornbæk
Hornbæk is a seaside town with many affordable holiday resorts. It is surrounded by a beautiful stretch of white sandy beach. Thanks to its natural beauty, the town is gradually becoming a popular tourist destination.
Nowadays, to serve international tourists, many restaurants are built. Tourists love to come here for weekend relaxation.
5. Ebeltoft
Ebeltoft is considered one of Denmark's most beautiful destinations. Visitors are often overwhelmed by the beauty of its winding cobblestone streets, ancient wooden houses and blooming hollyhocks in spring.
Ebeltoft could easily be mistaken for a sleepy seaside town but is actually home to a vibrant culture, especially in the summer when thousands flock to the area, the streets of Ebeltoft come alive with live music.
6. Sorø
Set amidst peaceful, picturesque countryside, the town of Sorø is home to the famous Sorø Academy. In the summer, the atmosphere here is bustling with music festivals.
The town is also home to the Sorø Kunstmuseum, an art museum housed in a stunning, architecturally award-winning neoclassical building.
7. Maribosøerne
Nestled in the middle of the island of Lolland, Maribosøerne is located on the shores of the beautiful Søndersø Lake – the 8th largest lake in Denmark.
Today one can still feel the town's rich history with architectural structures such as the magnificent Romanesque Maribo Domkirke, parts of which are believed to date back to 1416.
8. Mariager
This charming rural town is known as the “town of roses.” Here, visitors will find rose bushes growing everywhere, decorating the cobblestone streets and quaint half-timbered houses.
Mariager was once a small fishing village but has now developed into a vibrant town with many unique attractions.
