Many voters say they trust Mr. Trump more than his successor on economic , foreign and immigration policies. Mr. Biden’s multiracial and multigenerational base is also shrinking. The president is ahead of his predecessor by just 1 percentage point among voters under 30, his support among Hispanic voters has dropped to single digits, and his urban advantage is half of Mr. Trump’s in rural areas. Black voters in those states also support Mr. Trump at levels never seen in modern history for a Republican presidential candidate.

The poll was released a year before the presidential election, and both Biden and his predecessor are leading their respective parties. Biden’s campaign is not worried about the poll, which is a year away. But Democratic strategist David Axelrod said the poll will cause widespread concern in the party, citing Biden’s age (81). Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal also shared the concern, saying the presidential race will require a lot of effort, focus and resources.
