Milena turned down all job opportunities, spent 6 months just "listening" to herself, and decided to start a yoga center.

Having an attractive appearance, always full of positive energy, fluent in foreign languages… are common features of many Vietnamese girls today. Another similarity of them is that they like to challenge themselves, even challenging social prejudices.

Drop everything to start a business: Always believe in yourself

According to Milena, to realize our dreams, we need to step out of our comfort zone, breathe and connect with courage.

Giving up a good job opportunity, choosing to go against the majority opinion and even accepting her family's opposition to pursue a career in entrepreneurship is the story of Milena Nguyen (real name Nguyen Thuy Duong, 34 years old). At the age of 23, after graduating from Hanoi University, Milena became the global partnership development manager of the international youth non-governmental organization AIESEC. She is the first Vietnamese person to be selected for a management position at AIESEC since the organization was founded in 1948.

After a year working at AIESEC in the Netherlands, she decided to leave despite being on the rise. At the same time, she received many job offers from several large companies in Hong Kong (China), Australia, England... Milena refused all of these job opportunities to the surprise of most of her relatives and spent 6 months just "listening" to herself.

“At that point, I knew I wanted to pursue something meaningful,” she said.

In mid-2014, Milena started her first business. She used all her savings to open a yoga and meditation center in Hanoi, where she was both the owner and the trainer. "My parents were completely unsupportive when I suddenly had a good job in Europe and invitations from big corporations but I quit and ended up teaching yoga," she recalls.

As the eldest child in her family in Hanoi, Milena was often reminded to make her parents proud and set an example for her younger siblings. Therefore, she often wondered and doubted the path she was taking.

"But I want to step out of the traditional concept of success that society has long labeled women as being good at studying, graduating with a stable job, getting married and having children," said Milena.

After 2 years of operation, despite bringing positive experiences and love from students, due to lack of funds to maintain, Milena's yoga center was forced to close. The huge failure in her early life was like a psychological blow that made her depressed for a while. However, the depression helped her realize many lessons. "First is how to make money from passion in a sustainable way. Second, you need to learn how to build and manage a business well, because expertise is not everything. Finally, women who run and develop businesses need to think differently from men, otherwise they will easily get exhausted when "shouldering" the leadership position, being a wife, a mother and being a friend to themselves at the same time," she concluded. At that time, Milena was stuck between the choice of applying for a job, returning to work for large companies or creating her own business by starting a second business. And finally, Milena decided to continue to launch her "brainchild", the coaching company Empower Gaia Pte. Ltd. in Singapore at the end of 2016. This time, thanks to her systematic learning and previous experience, her coaching business achieved good revenue after only 3 months. Up to now, she has coached clients from more than 25 countries, contributing to the sustainable development of their businesses. In addition to running a coaching business, Milena is also a book author, inspirational speaker... and has stood on the TEDx Talk stage 3 times in Vietnam and Malaysia. She is also a blogger with tens of thousands of followers from many countries.

Follow your heart

10 years since choosing to step out of her comfort zone, experiencing countless failures before achieving the success she has today, for Milena, the greatest success is following the path that her heart tells her to. "Everything we encounter in life is a challenge. What we need to do is accept it, experience it to learn and grow every day," she confided.

Another talented girl who many people admire. Winning the MC MicZ Talent Search Contest 2023, winning the UEH University of Economics Student Translation Contest 2024, runner-up of the UEH University of Economics Student Debate Contest 2023, 1st runner-up of the Southern region and also in the top 10 of the whole country Miss Vietnam Student 2023... is a brief portrait of Le Phuong Khanh Nhu (21 years old, student of the Tourism Faculty, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics).

"I'm not good at multitasking. So I often spend time filtering and prioritizing tasks.

I also take time to sit and listen to myself, learning lessons about focus and efficiency at work.

Although I am still in school, I am fortunate to receive many invitations to be the MC of bilingual programs. I consider this an opportunity to practice discipline, self-study ability and flexibility," Khanh Nhu confided.

Dare to allow yourself to realize your dreams

When asked about her personal definition of a modern Vietnamese woman, Khanh Nhu shared: "She is someone who dares to allow herself to realize her dreams, always strives to improve her value and knows how to harmonize relationships and problems in life."

For that reason, in addition to studying and working as an MC, Khanh Nhu also tries her hand at many competitions that require different skills, spending a lot of time participating in Youth Union activities, community activities... She was once the face awarded the title "Beauty of Charity" at the Miss Vietnam Student 2023 contest, and was invited to attend the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Youth Union.

Many people think that with a height of over 1.7m and a beautiful appearance, Khanh Nhu is more suitable for beauty contests. With a bright smile, the 21-year-old female student said: "I dare not say anything about participating in beauty awards. I am currently aiming to become a "famous" bilingual MC in the next 5 years. Every time I stand on stage, I clearly feel the "burning" of youth and passion within me."

Her love for the MC profession is so great that with her first income from her English tutoring job, Khanh Nhu "sacrificed" all of that money to improve her MC knowledge instead of rewarding herself with new clothes.

Failure helps you become stronger and more complete.

Possessing a long list of achievements in the MC field, Khanh Nhu said that it was the result of her relentless efforts. "I often practice by talking to myself, watching famous TV shows and "stealing", studying at prestigious centers... But I realize that I learn much more when I compete with talented contestants and judges in competitions", Khanh Nhu said. For example, in an MC competition a few years ago, Khanh Nhu only stopped at the top 20 despite being highly appreciated by many people. She said that failure came from her being quite subjective, not knowing how to arrange her time properly and her presentation was not really neat and convincing. "That failure helped me know that I still have many shortcomings that need to be improved. That is the motivation for me to constantly read books, improve my foreign language and travel a lot, meet more people. Looking back, I feel more grateful than regretful for the above failure". The model of modern woman that Khanh Nhu aims for is MC Khanh Vy. She said that MC Khanh Vy, although only a few years older than her, has created many positive values for the community and for young people. At the same time, she admires her ability to work enthusiastically but still knows how to balance and enjoy life.
