Investing in centralized wastewater treatment systems for urban areas

Most residential areas with infrastructure investors granted investment certificates have built centralized wastewater treatment systems to meet standards before discharging into the environment.

Currently, in Long An province, domestic wastewater is generated at about 199,000m³/day and night. Of which, urban areas generate about 82,000m³/day and night. Most residential areas (KDC) with infrastructure investors granted investment certificates have built centralized wastewater treatment systems (WTPs) to treat them to standards before discharging them into the environment.

Investment in a centralized urban wastewater collection and treatment system needs to be focused on.

However, in the province, apart from Vinh Hung town which has a centralized wastewater treatment system, the remaining localities do not have a centralized urban wastewater collection and treatment system. Wastewater generated from households is only preliminarily treated through the households' septic tanks and then discharged into receiving sources; at the same time, some urban areas have not completed the construction of centralized wastewater treatment systems according to approved planning, specifically: Go Den Residential Area (Ben Luc District), Phuoc Thanh Residential Area (Can Giuoc District),...

Therefore, to address the shortcomings and limitations of urban areas without a centralized wastewater treatment system, the Provincial People's Committee included it in the Long An Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 (approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 686/QD-TTg, dated June 13, 2023); At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee directed the Department of Construction to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment, and the People's Committees of the districts to prepare documents for project approval procedures and implement the construction of urban wastewater treatment stations (to be built in 2025-2026) according to the planning to thoroughly overcome the environmental pollution situation.

Specifically, in Tan An City, the wastewater treatment stations to be built include: Dong Tan An Domestic Wastewater Treatment Station, capacity 30,000m³/day and night; Bac Tan An Domestic Wastewater Treatment Station, capacity 30,000m³/day and night. Can Duoc District includes: Can Duoc Town Domestic Wastewater Treatment Station, capacity 7,500m³/day and night; Rach Kien Domestic Wastewater Treatment Station, capacity 1,500m³/day and night.

Can Giuoc district has a domestic wastewater treatment station with a capacity of 15,000m³/day and night. Ben Luc district has a Ben Luc urban domestic wastewater treatment station with a capacity of 13,500m³/day and night; and Go Den urban domestic wastewater treatment station with a capacity of 2,500m³/day and night.

Duc Hoa district includes: Duc Hoa town domestic wastewater treatment station, capacity 8,000m³/day and night; Hau Nghia domestic wastewater treatment station, capacity 14,000m³/day and night; Hiep Hoa domestic wastewater treatment station, capacity 3,000m³/day and night. Kien Tuong town has a domestic wastewater treatment station, capacity 10,500m³/day and night.

At the same time, assign departments, branches and localities to urge KDC investors to complete infrastructure according to approved planning. In case of non-implementation, the Provincial People's Committee will advise on handling according to regulations./.
