On October 2, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City organized a session to supervise public investment in the health sector in the city.

100 public investment projects in the 2026-2030 period

Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health - said that in the two periods of 2016-2020 and 2021-2025, the city implemented 168 public investment projects in the health sector with a total capital of more than 57,000 billion VND.

Entering the 2026-2030 period, the Department of Health proposed a list of 100 new projects with a total capital of more than 66,000 billion VND - the largest investment level ever. Of which, 91 projects are in the health sector (more than 64,000 billion VND) and 9 projects in the social sector (more than 2,000 billion VND).

According to Mr. Nam, there are currently 8 key projects being invested in, including: Trauma Hospital, Mental Hospital (Thu Duc facility), General Practice Hospital at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Tropical Diseases Hospital, High-tech Screening Center; Proton Radiotherapy Center; Radioisotope Production Furnace and Binh Duong General Hospital.

Currently, the above projects have been submitted by the Department of Health to the Department of Finance for appraisal and investment proposal report.

In addition, there are 4 medical facilities that need to be arranged after the merger, including: Saigon General Hospital (expected to become Gia Dinh People's Hospital's second facility); Can Gio Regional Medical Center (expected to become Tu Du Hospital's second facility, general); Nhieu Loc Regional Medical Center (will be handed over to an overloaded hospital, expected to be the Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital); receiving Ho Chi Minh City Transport Hospital from the Department of Transport Health.

Proposal to remove 10 difficult projects

According to a report by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, there are currently 10 public investment projects in the health sector facing difficulties that need to be resolved soon.

Some projects are behind schedule due to difficulties from the contractor such as: Gia Dinh People's Hospital, High-tech Treatment Center of Children's Hospital 2, Area A of Trung Vuong Hospital, project to renovate the Hospital of Dentistry and Jaw, Facility 2 of Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital and Facility 4 of the Mental Hospital in Binh Duong (old).

Five other projects are stuck in the investment and equipment stages, including: the 1,500-bed Binh Duong General Hospital cluster; the socialization project of the Thuan An Regional Medical Center; equipment for Ba Ria and Vung Tau General Hospitals; and a project to add equipment to these two hospitals.

In addition, the city's health sector is also facing the situation of 11 real estate facilities being occupied, such as: Institute of Traditional Medicine, Tropical Diseases Hospital (7 households), Children's Hospital 2 (30 households), Ben San Leprosy Treatment Area (164 households)...

Concluding the monitoring session, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Phuoc Loc acknowledged and commended the efforts of the Department of Health and related units in the past time. He assessed that many important medical projects have been completed and put into use, contributing to improving the capacity of medical examination, treatment and health care for the people.

In particular, the putting into operation of the Hoc Mon, Thu Duc, Cu Chi Regional General Hospitals, An Binh Hospital Phase 2 and the second campus of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine are considered strategic projects, demonstrating the political determination of the city.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City affirmed that it will continue to promote its role of social supervision and criticism, promptly grasp the people's thoughts and aspirations; monitor the progress and quality of medical projects to ensure publicity, transparency, and avoid wasting resources. At the same time, this agency will also propose solutions to remove difficulties in order to soon put the projects into service.

The Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City is the country's specialized medical center, so investment in healthcare development not only serves the city's people but also the entire region. He requested the health sector and related departments and branches to continue to promote a sense of responsibility, creativity, and closely follow instructions to ensure that all completed projects are effective and best serve the people.
