Investing in upgrading and expanding Rach Gia Airport in An Giang province

The Government Office has just issued Document No. 6321/VPCP-CN conveying the opinion of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on investing in upgrading and expanding Rach Gia Airport.

Considering the proposal of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province (now An Giang province) on the proposal to invest in upgrading and expanding Rach Gia Airport, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha commented as follows:

The People's Committee of Kien Giang province (now An Giang province) urgently completes the detailed planning of Rach Gia Airport, submits it to the Ministry of Construction for approval according to regulations; deploys investment preparation work for the Rach Gia Airport expansion project according to regulations in Clause 1, Article 11 of the PPP Law and the direction of the Government leaders; proactively coordinates with the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Finance and relevant agencies in updating the planning, allocating capital and implementing the project.

The Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Finance closely coordinate with the People's Committee of Kien Giang province (now An Giang province) during the implementation process, and report to the Prime Minister on issues beyond their authority.

Currently, Rach Gia airport runway was built in 1960 and was renovated and upgraded twice by the Southern Airports Group (in 1997 and from October 2006 to April 2007) and repaired and reinforced with a soft-cover structure in 2014. It is still in use today, including a runway measuring 1,500 m x 30 m; a connecting taxiway measuring 49.28 m x 15 m; and an aircraft parking area measuring 165.7 m x 87.6 m.
