Proposal to transfer MobiFone to the Ministry of Public Security for management

The Ministry of Home Affairs proposed transferring MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation to the Ministry of Public Security for management.

MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation is under the management of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises. According to the Government's plan to orient, arrange, and streamline the organization, this Committee will end its operations and transfer the rights and responsibilities of representing the State ownership of 19 corporations and general companies to the ministries and branches for management.

In the report to the Government Steering Committee on the plan to reorganize and streamline the apparatus, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed transferring MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation to the Ministry of Public Security. The Party organization of this Corporation was transferred to be directly under the Central Public Security Party Committee.

In addition to MobiFone, the remaining 18 corporations and general companies will be assigned to the Ministry of Finance for management, after the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises ceases its operations.

MobiFone Corporation was established in 1993 under the name of Vietnam Mobile Information Company (VMS), the first mobile telecommunications network operator in Vietnam. In December 2014, MobiFone was transformed into MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation, under the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Then, in November 2018, MobiFone was transferred the ownership representative rights to the State Capital Management Committee at enterprises.

In Vietnam, MobiFone is one of the largest telecommunications - information technology - digital content enterprises, providing mobile information networks, with more than 30% market share. This corporation aims to transform into a leading technology group in Vietnam.

According to a report in December by the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises, MobiFone's consolidated pre-tax profit is estimated to reach VND2,048 billion in 2024, exceeding the annual plan by 20.6%.

In 2024, some of the corporation's digital service sectors will have high growth rates such as MobiFone Meet (growth of 1,050%), Cloud (312%), mobiAgri (49%), MobiFone invoive (58%).
