Proposal to plan the Ha Long - Mong Cai railway route

The 150 km long Ha Long - Mong Cai railway is an extension of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh railway (the end point of the line is in Ha Long City).

Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee has just sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Transport regarding the planning of the Ha Long - Mong Cai railway route.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province proposed that the Ministry of Transport assign the Vietnam Railway Authority to develop a plan for the Ha Long - Mong Cai railway route or add the Ha Long - Mong Cai section to the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh railway route plan that the Vietnam Railway Authority is implementing as a basis for calling for and promoting investment as well as for managing land funds according to the approved route plan.

It is known that according to the railway network planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, 3 railway lines are planned in Quang Ninh province.

The first route is Yen Vien - Pha Lai - Ha Long - Cai Lan with a length of 129 km, gauge of 1,000 mm and 1,435 mm, investment roadmap until 2030.

The second route is Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh with an expected length of 101 km, track gauge of 1,435 mm, investment route after 2030.

The second route is Ha Long - Mong Cai with an expected length of 150 km, track gauge of 1,435 mm, investment schedule after 2030.

To implement the Railway Network Planning, the Ministry of Transport has assigned the Vietnam Railways Administration to plan the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh railway route (the final point is in Ha Long City).

Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee said that China is investing in a railway line from Fangcheng City to Dongxing City in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Once completed, the Fangcheng Port to Dongxing City railway will connect with China's railway network.

“Therefore, the early implementation of the Ha Long - Mong Cai railway will create a closed railway network connecting Ha Khau (China) - Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Ha Long - Mong Cai - Dong Hung (China), contributing significantly to the transportation of goods and passengers between Vietnam and China and ASEAN”, the leader of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee assessed.
