Priceless heritage of the nation

During the historic May days, on the heroic land of Dien Bien, many meaningful activities took place to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory to pay tribute to those who fell for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland; at the same time, it was an opportunity to look back and promote the great value of the special national historical relic of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.

The Dien Bien Phu Battlefield Relic Complex includes 46 component relics (including 8 Special National Relics) which are vivid evidence of the miraculous resistance of our army and people.

Not only does it have profound historical value, it is also a symbol of the indomitable spirit, intelligence and bravery of Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh era; a placeto educate the young generation about patriotism, a destination that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists.

The A1 Hill Historical Site, where the fiercest battle of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954 took place, has now become a "red address" attracting tourists to come and commemorate, pay tribute and better understand the glorious feats in the nation's history of fighting foreign invaders.

After visiting Hill A1, Veteran Nguyen Van Bong (Hai Tay Commune, Hai Hau District, Nam Dinh Province) confided: “The first time I set foot on the heroic land of Dien Bien and visited historical sites, I was extremely moved. The sites have been invested in, restored, embellished, protected and created favorable conditions for tourists to visit and learn. Dien Bien’s most special and distinctive tourism product is historical-spiritual tourism. This is the advantage and core for the province to promote historical values and attract tourists. Over the years, the locality has made efforts to invest, restore and preserve historical relics with support from the Central Government, organizations and individuals.

The technical infrastructure, traffic and service systems in the central area of Dien Bien Phu city and historical sites have been and are being significantly improved.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Dao, Director of the Dien Bien Provincial Relic Management Board, said that the unit has closely coordinated with relevant units to advise the Provincial People's Committee on many specific contents regarding planning, restoration and embellishment of the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield National Historical Relic; implementing the Project of placing measuring markers, granting Land Use Rights Certificates for relic sites; building the Project of the Center for Conservation and Restoration of the Center of the Group of Strongholds, Phase 2.

In order to maximize the value of the relic cluster, associated with sustainable tourism development, Dien Bien is continuing to promote the overall planning work, connecting the relic chain with eco-tourism products and communities in the surrounding areas such as: Muong Ang, Tua Chua, Dien Bien Dong...

At the same time, the province focuses on investing in renovating relic sites, improving the quality of tour guides, and applying digital technology to the sightseeing experience to create attraction and novelty for tourists.

According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province, during the 5-day holiday (from April 30 to May 4), the province welcomed 60,100 visitors to visit and experience tourist areas and spots; of which 13,500 were overnight guests. Total revenue from tourism activities reached about 182 billion VND; room occupancy rate reached 56.3%.

These days, the relics are still attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to visit, learn and experience.

Inspiring the next generation

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Phu, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province, field trips, extracurricular activities, and summer camps at the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield relic complex will help the younger generation, especially students, better understand the value of peace, arouse patriotism, the will to rise up, and the responsibility to build their homeland and country.

Exactly 71 years have passed, but the special national historical site of Dien Bien Phu Victory is still a vivid milestone, a historical witness that has a strong inspiration for generations of Vietnamese people today.

This is not only a place to preserve artifacts and living documents, but also an “outdoor historical school,” a place that connects the past and the present. Each bunker, trench, and soldier’s belongings from the past… are all associated with stories of sacrifice, bravery, and intelligence of the Vietnamese army and people.

Therefore, trips to the source, visits and learning at the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield relic complex are not only experiences, but also a journey to inspire and foster national spirit, educate revolutionary traditions and arouse pride in each person, especially the young generation.

Visiting the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Headquarters in Muong Phang Commune, Nguyen Phuong Linh, a student at Gia Cam Secondary School (Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province) emotionally shared: “Coming to Dien Bien, the pride of the nation is further enhanced and I remember more deeply the contributions of our ancestors who fought bravely to regain independence and freedom for the country. As a generation living in peace, I tell myself that I need to continue to promote the traditions of my ancestors to contribute a small part of my efforts to build the country stronger and stronger.”

Promoting the value of the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield National Historical Site contributes to preserving and honoring the great historical and cultural values of the nation; at the same time, it is a driving force for sustainable local tourism development. With attention and investment, this site is gradually becoming an attractive destination, contributing to promoting the local economy, educating the tradition of patriotism for the younger generation; at the same time, affirming the determination of the entire Party and people in preserving and promoting the precious historical heritage of the nation./.
