For the first time qualifying for the U21 Women's Volleyball World Championship, the Vietnam U21 team does not dream of creating any achievements against extremely strong opponents, even though last year, the team was ranked in the Top 5 of the 2024 Asian U20 Championship.
However, with the extremely comfortable mental state of a tour with a heavy learning nature, the U21 Vietnam team continuously created shocks at the Jawa Pos Stadium in Surabaya, Indonesia.
Vietnam U21 team takes the field against Serbia, a strong opponent from Europe
After easily defeating host Indonesia in the opening match in a three-game sweep, on the afternoon of August 8, the U21 Vietnam team met U21 Serbia in the second match of Group A. The Eastern European team, which won the runner-up position in the tournament 4 years ago and is currently ranked 8th in the world, is undoubtedly a force too strong for the U21 Vietnam team, not to mention the obvious advantages in height and strength.

With nothing to lose, the U21 Vietnam team created the first earthquake when defeating Serbia, one of the strong teams that was considered the top candidate of the tournament. Right from the first minutes, U21 Vietnam played evenly with Serbia. The Eastern European team continuously made mistakes in the first pass, creating opportunities for U21 Vietnam to break away and win the first game 25-21.
Serbia continuously adjusted their playing style and scored in the second game.
Serbia U21 adjusted their formation and style of play, making the most of their powerful serves and excellent backline defense. This helped them turn the tables, winning 25-23 in the second set and bringing the match to a climax.
The exciting score chase between the two teams took place in the third game when both sides took turns leading and exchanging points. However, U21 Vietnam quickly regained their solidity in blocking the ball that had troubled the host team Indonesia in the opening match.
Coach Nguyen Trong Linh's team continuously scored points thanks to Le Thuy Linh's brilliant moments and won spectacularly 25-22, taking a 2-1 lead.
U21 Vietnam won the last two games, winning 3-1 against Serbia
U21 Serbia dominated U21 Vietnam in the beginning of the 4th set, at times leading their opponents by 4 points. In difficult situations, U21 Vietnam still blocked the ball well, attacked steadily and scored regularly. Serbia tried their best to narrow the gap in the final minutes, but then a scoring attack by captain Dang Thi Hong brought the decisive score of 25-23.
Vietnam U21 team has high hopes of competing for tickets to the quarterfinals
Vietnam U21 team defeated Serbia 3-1, creating the first earthquake at the Women's U21 Volleyball World Championship. The victory over Serbia brought Vietnam U21 to second place in Group A, behind Argentina U21, who also won the first two matches.
In the next match on the afternoon of August 9, coach Nguyen Trong Linh's team will face U21 Canada and if they continue to win, Dang Thi Hong and her teammates will almost certainly advance to the round of 16.
