Amanda Anisimova caused a huge shock when she defeated Iga Swiatek to reach the semi-finals of the US Open 2025, thereby avenging the debt from the unbelievable defeat at the Wimbledon 2025 final.

In the early morning of September 4, in the third quarter-final match of the women's singles event of the 2025 US Open, Anisimova was rated much lower than Swiatek, the Polish No. 2 seed. The American No. 8 seed had suffered a humiliating 0-6, 0-6 defeat to Swiatek in the Wimbledon final in July.

However, in this rematch, Anisimova got her revenge in spectacular fashion. On Arthur Ashe Stadium, she defeated the leading candidate for the championship with a score of 6-4, 6-3 in a dramatic match that lasted 1 hour and 36 minutes.

Swiatek entered the US Open as the favourite, having enjoyed a strong run of form by winning Wimbledon and WTA Cincinnati. However, the Polish player's hopes of a second US Open title were dashed by the explosive performance of Anisimova.

The quarter-final match started poorly for Anisimova, as she was broken in the first game, giving Swiatek an early advantage. However, Anisimova responded immediately by breaking her opponent's serve to level the score, then came back to defeat the six-time Grand Slam champion.

At 24, Anisimova will face the winner of the last quarter-final between Naomi Osaka or Karolina Muchova, for a place in the final.
