At top universities, which are renowned for the quality of their language training, benchmarks are consistently high and tend to rise.
University of Languages and International Studies - Vietnam National University, Hanoi , one of the leading language training centers in the North, witnessed impressive growth from 35.57 points (in 2022) to 38.45 points (in 2024) on a 40-point scale.
Thus, last year, candidates needed to achieve an average of 9.62 points per subject to be admitted. This score affirms the "top" position and the fierce competition to win a place to study here.
Similarly, Hanoi University, another priority choice for candidates from the North, also maintains a very high benchmark score, always above 35 points for the past 3 years.
The Academy of Finance has increased its benchmark score for this major from 34.32 to 34.73 points. Meanwhile, Hanoi University of Culture has also increased by more than 1 point in the last 2 years, showing the increasing attractiveness of economic and cultural schools to the language major.

In the Southern region, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Ho Chi Minh City National University always has a benchmark score for English language fluctuating around 26 points on a 30-point scale.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Education also showed a slight but steady growth, from 25.5 points (in 2022) to 25.86 points (in 2024) for English language majors. In particular, the university's English Pedagogy major will take up to 26.99 points in 2024, showing a great demand for high-quality English teachers.
Besides the top schools, many universities in the average segment also recorded stable and increasing admission scores, attracting a large number of candidates with good academic performance.
Among them, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City Banking University, University of Finance - Marketing, Saigon University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry have regular benchmark scores at 23-25 points. This stability makes it easier for candidates to choose and evaluate their chances of admission.
From another perspective, the English language benchmark also shows a clear differentiation between schools. The benchmark score fluctuates greatly depending on the school, from the lowest average of 5 points to the highest of more than 9 points per subject to pass.
This difference creates many options for candidates with different academic abilities and goals, from those with excellent exam results to those with only average scores, qualified for admission.
The benchmark scores for English Language majors based on the high school graduation exam results of the past 3 years at some universities are as follows:

English language benchmark scores in the past three years (Synthesized by Phuong Thao).
Over the past 3 years, although there have been certain fluctuations in the difficulty of the exam in each subject, the overall score distribution of the combined subjects for admission to the English language major has been quite stable.
However, with the math and English exams being more difficult this year, many experts predict that the benchmark score for block D01 (math, literature, English) may decrease by 1-2 points.
In addition, diverse admission methods also significantly affect the benchmark scores. The fact that many schools apply admission combined with international language certificates (IELTS, TOEFL), academic records or competency assessment scores in addition to high school graduation exam scores has created a wider "playing field".
For example, converting IELTS scores to English scores in the admission combination can help candidates achieve a higher total score than relying solely on high school graduation exam scores, especially at top schools.
In the context of deep international integration, English proficiency is not only an advantage but also a basic requirement for many professions. Therefore, the demand for learning English will continue to be maintained steadily.
To increase the chances of being admitted to the English language major in 2025, candidates need to clearly identify their own abilities. Based on previous years' scores, compare with their academic ability to choose the appropriate group of schools.
Candidates need to carefully study the admission information, understand the admission methods, subject combinations and quotas of each school. In particular, pay attention to schools that select students based on a special score scale.
Another thing to note is to consult with experts. If you are still unsure, seek out admissions consultants at universities, high school teachers, etc. for specific support.
