According to the score distribution of high school graduation exams announced by the Ministry of Education and Training , the average scores of all subjects decreased compared to last year, except for Physics. Of which, Mathematics decreased the most, from 6.45 to 4.78 (down 1.67). Next was Chemistry, down from 6.68 to (down 0.62). In Physics alone, the average score increased from 6.67 to 6.99 (up 0.32).
In particular, the scores of Math and English in the high school graduation exam were evenly distributed on both sides, and were positively evaluated by many experts, despite previous controversy over the difficulty level of the test.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Chairman of the Council of the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, commented that this year's score distribution accurately reflects the quality and has good differentiation, especially in the two subjects of Math and English.
Math is highly classified, the exam is considered the best from 2018 to present, helping to clearly identify good, excellent and average students. Meanwhile, English also has a bright score range.
"Although candidates and parents initially reacted because the exam was too difficult, the final results proved the reasonableness of the exam. For English, this year, the exam was much more difficult due to the change from A2 to B1 output standards, but the average score was still 5.38. That shows that the candidates' ability has clearly improved," Mr. Duc assessed .

Regarding the university entrance exam scores this year, Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc predicted that they would be lower than last year. This comes from many reasons, including the well-differentiated exam questions and the decrease in average scores. The percentage of excellent scores is also lower than previous years.
"At first, I predicted that the benchmark score would be 2-6 points lower because both candidates and teachers rated the Math and English tests as difficult. But when the Ministry announced the score distribution, I was quite surprised because the score distribution for these two subjects was surprisingly beautiful, the benchmark score would be about 2-3 points lower depending on the field," said Mr. Duc.
According to Mr. Duc, the average scores of candidates in Literature and Geography are still relatively high, so the difference in benchmark scores is not too much compared to last year in combinations like C00. For combinations using Math and English (A01, D01), he predicts that the benchmark scores will decrease significantly.
Associate Professor Dr. Tran Dang Hung, Hanoi University of Industry, commented that the 2025 Math score distribution is relatively standard in terms of exam results. This year, candidates said that Math was difficult, but there were still more than 500 exams with a score of 10, while in 2024 there were no 10s. The standard deviation in 2024 was 1.56 and this year it was 1.68. This reflects a wider spectrum and a more distinct differentiation in Math scores compared to last year.
Sharing the same opinion, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Son, Principal of Hanoi National University of Education, commented that this year's score distribution is interesting and surprising, especially in Math and English.
"It seems that students' adaptability is much better than adults' emotional assessment. This is a very optimistic thing, showing a positive signal for teaching, testing, and evaluation according to the 2018 generaleducation program," said Mr. Son, adding that with this year's high school graduation exam score range, universities can confidently use it as a basis for admission consideration.

In all subjects, the whole country had more than 15,300 exams with a score of 10 (this number is about 4,400 higher than last year). Of which, Geography is the subject with the most candidates achieving absolute scores with about 6,900 exams. Following that are Physics with 3,929 exams, History with 1,518 exams and Economic and Legal Education with 1,451 exams. In particular, Literature this year did not record any exam achieving absolute scores.
Nationwide, 936 candidates received failing marks (1 or less), of which 777 were in Math (10 times more than last year). Following was Literature with 87 candidates, and English with 28 candidates. Four new subjects this year included: Information Technology, Economic and Legal Education, Agricultural and Industrial Technology, and no candidates received failing marks.
