Solar power is the fastest growing source of electricity for the 18th consecutive year, with growth reaching 24% in the past year, compared to the same period last year. Wind power growth is expected to reach 17% in 2022.

The analysis, based on data from 78 countries accounting for 93% of global electricity demand, found that more than 60 countries together generate 10% of all wind and solar power. Renewables and nuclear sources will account for 39% of global electricity generation in 2022, also a new record.
However, this growth is not fast enough as electricity demand increases every year, coal and other fossil fuels fill the gap, causing emissions to set new records.
“Clean electricity will reshape the global economy , from transportation to industry and beyond,” said Ember senior electricity analyst Malgorzata Wiatros-Motyka, lead author of the study.
