In recent days, people in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City have had more good news when there is a satellite clinic located at Vinh Loc B commune health station.
Extended arm
One of the first people to come to the newly opened clinic was Mr. Tran Van H., 68 years old. Mr. H. has had high blood pressure and heart disease for a long time and has to regularly go to Binh Chanh District Hospital for check-ups, dozens of kilometers away from his home. When he heard that Binh Chanh District Hospital had set up a clinic in Vinh Loc B commune, he was very happy. "The most convenient thing is that now you don't have to go far, there are doctors who examine you on the spot, are attentive, and give you full medicine" - Mr. H. was excited.
MSc. Vo Ngoc Cuong, Director of Binh Chanh District Hospital, said that Binh Chanh is located at the western - southwestern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, with a large area and a large population. The area is so large that people have to spend an hour and 20 km to get to the hospital. To overcome this difficulty, the hospital cooperated with Vinh Loc B Commune Health Station to open a satellite clinic. This is an extension of the hospital to help patients receive the earliest, fastest and highest quality medical services right at the health station.

The clinic is staffed by 11 hospital staff, including 4 doctors specializing in internal medicine, surgery, diagnostic imaging and traditional medicine; 7 medical staff including 1 laboratory technician, 2 nurses, 1 pharmacist, 3 administrative staff. The clinic also has many medical equipment such as hematology, biochemistry, urine testing machines; electrocardiogram machines; color ultrasound machines; patient vital signs monitoring equipment...
Doctor Cuong said that the satellite clinic also supports Vinh Loc B Commune Health Station in handling emergency cases and first aid before transferring to another hospital. Binh Chanh District Hospital is focusing on improving the quality of emergency care, continuing to promote the support of experts from upper-level medical facilities, and improving the treatment capacity of 3 specialties: cardiovascular, plastic surgery, and rehabilitation. "By the end of 2023, the hospital will develop more specialized units such as: orthopedic trauma surgery, urology, artificial kidney, stroke, blood vessels..." - Doctor Cuong informed.
Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, assessed the rise of Binh Chanh District Hospital as a breakthrough for one of the gateway hospitals in the suburbs. This is the expectation of the city's health sector, not only for Binh Chanh District Hospital but also for the entire grassroots health system, meeting the initial medical examination and treatment needs of the people.
Changing skin for the sick
In recent years, changing the face of primary health care has been an important policy decision of Ho Chi Minh City. In particular, reviving the city's gateway health care is one of the strategies. At the Northwest gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, there are currently many public and private hospitals developing strongly. However, a reliable address that needs to be mentioned is Cu Chi District Hospital. Currently, this hospital has developed comprehensively in terms of human resources, expertise, and technology to meet the expectations of the people.
Specialist II Doctor Tran Chanh Xuan, Director of Cu Chi District Hospital, said that over the years, the hospital has made continuous efforts to develop and apply many new techniques to meet the medical examination and treatment needs of local people. Currently, the hospital has met about 90% of the medical examination and treatment needs of local people, and the rate of hospital transfers has decreased significantly compared to before.
Specifically, the hospital's surgical department has many specialties: Orthopedic surgery, general surgery - oncology - urology, neurosurgery - spine. In the whole Cu Chi district, only Cu Chi District Hospital performs phaco surgery to treat cataracts. Regarding the interdisciplinary ear - nose - throat or teeth - jaw - face, many types of surgery have been performed. The Artificial Kidney Department alone has 20 kidney dialysis machines, meeting only 50% of the demand. In the future, the hospital will invest in 20 more machines.
Notably, Cu Chi District Hospital also implemented digital transformation: electronic medical records, picture archiving and transmission system (PACS) software to help doctors immediately have paraclinical results, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) applications with imaging diagnostic equipment...
"Although it is only a level II technical specialty, the hospital's surgical department has performed many advanced techniques that are only seen in level I or special level hospitals such as joint replacement, endoscopic surgery, ureteroplasty, ureteral surgery..." - said Dr. Xuan.
At the Northwestern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital has a helipad that is also gradually being completed. Specialist II Doctor Dang Quoc Quan, Director of Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital, said that the hospital is making comprehensive preparations in terms of human resources and facilities; at the same time, inviting leading experts to cooperate, provide professional support, and transfer technology. In addition to improving emergency and surgical capacity, the hospital will soon install 40 new hemodialysis machines, increasing the number to 60 machines.
Expand your network
According to Mr. Vo Duc Thanh, Chairman of Binh Chanh District People's Committee, the first satellite clinic located in a densely populated commune like Vinh Loc B is a special mark, aiming to provide medical services to all classes of people, meeting the needs of medical examination, treatment and health care for people in the area and neighboring areas.
Mr. Thanh hopes that this model will be gradually expanded to all communes and towns, forming a network in the district, to achieve the common goal of developing Binh Chanh district into a city by 2025.
