Vitamin supplements will maximize their benefits when taken in the right amount. Depending on how much vitamin is absorbed in daily food, the user will choose the appropriate dose, according to the health website Healthline (USA).

Overuse of vitamin supplements can cause stomach pain, vomiting, dizziness and many other side effects.

If you take too many vitamins, your body may experience the following symptoms:

Dizziness from too much vitamin A

Vitamin A has antioxidant properties and is essential for vision, healthy cell growth, and fertility. However, too much vitamin A can be harmful.

The Mayo Clinic, a non-profit medical organization in the US, said that taking more than 200 mg of vitamin A at a time can lead to nausea, vomiting, blurred vision and dizziness. In the case of taking vitamin A, even a much smaller amount of about 10 mg/day, if prolonged, can also lead to joint and bone pain, skin irritation, osteoporosis and liver damage.

Kidney stones due to excess vitamin C

One of the biggest benefits of vitamin C is that it helps boost immunity. Foods rich in vitamin C include oranges, grapefruits, carrots, tomatoes, pineapples, and red bell peppers.

However, too much vitamin C can lead to stomach problems, from cramps, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Taking more than 1,000 mg/day over a long period of time can increase the risk of kidney stones.

Reduced bone density due to excess vitamin D

Vitamin D plays an important role in bone health because it is vitamin D that allows calcium to be absorbed into the bones. Since there are not many foods rich in vitamin D, taking supplements with this vitamin is quite common.

However, excess vitamin D has the opposite effect of reducing bone density. Not only that, overdose of vitamin D can also cause stomach pain, loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea, and even kidney failure.

Vomiting due to taking too many iron supplements

The role of iron in the body is undeniable. However, if you supplement iron with a dose of 10-20 mg/kg of body weight, side effects such as stomach pain and vomiting will appear. If you accidentally take a high dose of over 40 mg/kg of body weight, you need to go to the hospital for treatment, according to Healthline.
