Heart transplant patient makes dramatic recovery
Through examination, hemodynamic and biochemical indicators were stable, the transplanted heart was beating very well. The patient who received the heart transplant was completely conscious and was immediately extubated by doctors.
Mr. G. was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy - heart failure 13 years ago. Despite optimal medical treatment, his heart parameters and function did not improve and he is waiting for the opportunity to have a heart transplant.
On July 5, Professor Pham Nhu Hiep - Director of Hue Central Hospital - said that the hospital received news that someone from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital ( Hanoi ) donated a heart.
Immediately, the hospital's organ transplant procedure system was activated. That evening, the hospital's doctors took the patient's blood sample to Hanoi for testing. Fortunately, Mr. G's blood sample and the donor's blood sample matched.
The surgery to retrieve the organs was scheduled to begin at 5:20 p.m. on July 6. However, there was only one last flight from Hanoi to Hue at 7:35 p.m. and the surgery to retrieve the organs took longer than expected.
Among the donated organs, the heart was the last to be removed, so doctors in Hue had to wait.
At this time, the organ transplant team in Hue, especially Mr. Hiep himself, was very worried. The hospital considered a plan to transport the heart from Hanoi to Da Nang and then transport the heart by ambulance to Hue.

Postpone flight to wait for a heart
Fortunately, Bamboo Airways understood and decided to wait for the heart to board the plane to Hue. The airline informed the 159 passengers on flight QH1201 about this and everyone happily agreed to wait 23 minutes longer than the departure time, together creating a miracle.
After the plane landed at Phu Bai airport, the ambulance took only 12 minutes to travel more than 14km to Hue Central Hospital. Doctors washed the heart and then performed the transplant. After exactly 1 hour and 12 minutes, the heart beat again in Mr. G's chest, to the joy of the surgical team.
“The recent heart transplant story is truly a miracle. Thank you to everyone who joined hands to make that miracle happen. We hope that we will have many more opportunities to make more miracles like this, so that the “seed of life” can continue to flourish,” said Mr. Hiep.
Ms. TTM (Mr. G.'s wife) also sent her thanks to the heart donor for her husband, the doctors who participated in the cross-Vietnam heart transplant, Bamboo Airways and especially the 159 passengers on flight QH1201.
“Thank you for all the encouragement sent to my family from all over the country,” said Ms. M.
