National trains will not run through Hanoi

Việt NamViệt Nam22/07/2024

TP – From its function as a depot to receive urban trains, Ngoc Hoi station (Thanh Tri district, Hanoi ) will be developed into a complex capable of receiving both North-South trains, including high-speed trains. Thus, passenger trains will not run through the center to enter Hanoi station as they do now.

After the Ministry of Transport and Hanoi City agreed that Hanoi station will be the inner-city station and Ngoc Hoi station will become the national hub station, for both passenger trains on the North-South route, including high-speed trains to be built in the future, the Ministry of Transport is assigning specialized units to review and reorganize the construction of Ngoc Hoi station.

Informing Tien Phong reporter about the current construction status of Ngoc Hoi station, Mr. Vu Hong Phuong, Director of the Railway Management Board, Ministry of Transport said that for many years, the Railway Management Board has been assigned to plan the Ngoc Hoi depot site to implement the urban railway line No. 1 project, Yen Vien - Ngoc Hoi section.

However, when the Ministry of Transport and Hanoi city had a new policy for this depot site, including the accompanying project, in the past 2 years, the survey and implementation at the project site had to stop.

Along with that, Mr. Phuong also said that according to the Government 's policy, urban railway projects in Hanoi city need to be handed over to localities for implementation, so the Board has basically completed the transfer of urban railway project No. 1 to Hanoi city representatives to receive and develop a plan for further implementation, including the project's depot site documents.

Rebuilding Ngoc Hoi Station: National trains will not run through the heart of Hanoi photo 1

In the near future, national trains will not enter Hanoi station but stop at Ngoc Hoi station.

According to Mr. Phuong, according to the policy that the Ministry of Transport has just agreed with Hanoi city, Ngoc Hoi depot area is only a part of the work (item) of Ngoc Hoi station when it is developed into a station complex.

The Railway Department, Ministry of Transport, said that the draft detailed construction plan for Ngoc Hoi station is being completed by the Department in coordination with relevant units. According to this draft plan, from 102 hectares of the depot station, from now until 2030, with a vision to 2050, Ngoc Hoi station will be expanded to about 251 hectares. Of which, the high-speed railway station is 8 hectares, the depot area is 102 hectares; the national railway station is 14.6 hectares; the cargo station is 24.6 hectares...

TEDI Consulting Unit assessed that, with the above scale and functions, after being completed according to the new planning, Ngoc Hoi station complex will be the largest railway station in the North.

With the function of serving train operations, Ngoc Hoi station complex was determined by the representative of the Ministry of Transport that national railway lines do not run to Hanoi station as before, including the high-speed railway line formed in the future, but only run to Ngoc Hoi station. Therefore, Ngoc Hoi station is determined to be the terminus of the national railway and also the terminus of high-speed railway passenger and freight trains in the southern area of Hanoi.

High-speed railway through 20 provinces and cities

Passengers transported by trains connecting to Ngoc Hoi station as well as passengers from inner-city stations connecting to Ngoc Hoi station will be handled by the inner-city urban railway system and other forms of public transport in Hanoi city.

TEDI Consulting Unit assessed that, with the above scale and functions, after being completed according to the new planning, Ngoc Hoi station complex will be the largest railway station in the North.

According to the draft Planning of railway routes, stations in key areas, and transit stations including Hanoi city, which is being consulted by the Vietnam Railway Authority, the North-South high-speed railway will pass through 20 provinces and cities, connecting major economic and political centers of the country.

In Hanoi, the North-South high-speed railway route complies with relevant planning of Hanoi city and neighboring provinces. Specifically, the high-speed railway has a terminal station at Ngoc Hoi station complex (not running radially from Hanoi station as originally designed).

In Hanoi, the high-speed train runs above ground and crosses the ring roads and railway crossings in the southern region, then approaches the next station outside Hanoi, Phu Ly station (Ha Nam province).
