Vietnamese businesses face double pressure: Increase productivity or fall behind in the green race?

Vietnamese businesses are under pressure to improve productivity while having to go green to meet environmental standards and avoid falling behind in the global supply chain.

Vietnamese enterprises are currently facing dual pressures: to improve productivity and quality while also going green to cope with climate change. As consumers increasingly care about environmentally friendly products and transparency in emissions, enterprises have no choice but to innovate technology, improve processes and build a green culture to ensure sustainable competitive advantage and international integration.

The current status of green transformation in Vietnamese enterprises

Green transformation is becoming a mandatory strategy for Vietnamese businesses. According to environmental and standards experts, for a Net Zero journey to be real, three important factors need to be linked: environmental policies need to be clearly oriented, the quality measurement standards system needs to be transparent, and businesses must proactively deploy green technology. In fact, large businesses have proactively applied green solutions in production and services. TH Group applies the PAS 2060 carbon neutral standard in milk and purified water production, Loc Troi implements a circular economy model in agricultural production, Cheng Loong Binh Duong Paper invests in the production of recycled paper, GSM Mobility develops electric vehicle services to reduce emissions from transportation.

Maihoa Group is a prominent example in the field of green technology products with Nano AirPurity, from paintings to stickers, which help deodorize, antibacterial and purify the air without consuming electricity. The product not only brings environmental benefits but also spreads the green message through campaigns to donate paintings to agencies, organizations and communities. Test results show that antibacterial efficiency is up to 99.99%, demonstrating the company's real commitment to the Net Zero journey.

However, the challenges remain, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. Many units do not have enough resources to measure emissions, or do not have experience in building a Net Zero roadmap. The incentive mechanism from the state is not strong enough or not synchronized enough, causing some enterprises to hesitate when investing in green. Many enterprises still see green investment as a cost, not an opportunity to improve productivity and quality. If they delay, they will easily fall behind in the global game, when large markets are requiring increasingly strict environmental criteria.

Improve productivity and move towards Net Zero

To overcome difficulties, businesses need to put Net Zero at the center of their development strategy, not consider it a secondary goal. Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thi An, Member of the 13th National Assembly , Director of the Institute of Natural Resources, Environment and Community Development, emphasized that: "The factor of quality productivity must be placed at the center of the green transformation strategy... Only on that foundation can the development process truly be considered green growth." This shows that when businesses improve productivity while improving green technology, they will both reduce emissions and optimize costs, increasing operational efficiency.

Mr. Tran Cong Hoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Maihoa Group, also affirmed the role of enterprises in the Net Zero journey: “Enterprises are the subjects implementing green transformation… They must innovate technology, management and internal culture to both improve productivity and reduce emissions.” Innovative products such as Nano AirPurity of Maihoa Group are proof of a business model that combines social responsibility, both creating value in use and spreading the message of environmental protection. A culture of continuous innovation plays an important role, as human resources teams are encouraged to propose innovative initiatives, apply new technologies and develop green products.

The State and management agencies need to continue to improve the legal framework, develop transparent measurement standards and provide financial support mechanisms for businesses to implement green transformation. Businesses should proactively participate in the international standards system, cooperate with consulting organizations to inventory greenhouse gases and develop clear Net Zero plans. At the same time, widespread communication and sharing of implementation results will contribute to spreading the green model, changing public and consumer awareness, and motivating other businesses to effectively apply green solutions.
When policies, standards and business efforts are integrated synchronously, productivity and quality will increase sustainably. At the same time, Net Zero will become a strategic advantage instead of a burden. Pioneering businesses such as TH Group, Loc Troi, Cheng Loong, Intech Energy, GSM Mobility and Maihoa Group show that green business is completely feasible, bringing dual values: economic value and environmental value. Productivity, quality and Net Zero thus become three solid pillars for sustainable development in Vietnam, where businesses, the state and the community work together to build a green and sustainable future.
