My legs

Ms. Ly Thi Di, from Tu Ha village, Nam Xe commune, Van Ban district (mother of Vang A Dong), shared: “My son was born with these limbs. When we went for a check-up, the joints weren't properly aligned, and the doctors said he had muscle wasting and malnutrition. I didn't have the money for treatment, so I just stayed home and took care of him. I had to carry him everywhere I went. Before, I thought he wouldn't be able to go to school, but the teachers encouraged me to let him go. Luckily, the teachers and his classmates took pity on him and carried him to and from school. I feel more at ease now.”

Vàng A Đông couldn't stand up and speak like his classmates. He struggled to write even a single letter with his weak hands. But the eyes of this 6-year-old boy were always full of determination and willpower.

Vang A Dong, a student at Nam Xe Semi-Boarding Ethnic Minority Primary School, Van Ban District.

"I really enjoy going to school because there are teachers and friends in class. The teacher teaches me math and how to write," Vang A Dong shared.

Teacher Tran Thi Doa, a teacher at Nam Xe Semi-Boarding Ethnic Minority Primary School in Van Ban district, said: “I flexibly arrange a suitable seat for her and design lessons that match her abilities. I also ask her what she likes, and Dong wants to be integrated with all her classmates so that she feels comfortable. I love her very much and always pay special attention to her; at home she has her mother, and at school she has her teachers.”

Vang A Dong was given the opportunity to have lunch at school with his classmates.

Although not eligible for the boarding school program, Vàng A Đông is still given the opportunity to have lunch at school with his friends. A satisfying meal, shared with his friends, is a daily joy for Đông.

“The teachers have just launched a fundraising campaign to buy a wheelchair for Dong, with each person contributing a little money. Dong will receive maximum support from the teachers and students of the school to have the best possible learning conditions,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Thu, Principal of Nam Xe Semi-Boarding Ethnic Minority Primary School in Van Ban District.
