Jan de Boer received an egg for the best player of the match award. |
The opening game of the season on 30 March saw Bryne FK lose 1-0 to the Norwegian top flight. However, De Boer still made his mark with a series of excellent saves, including a penalty save in the second half to prevent the score from being extended.
After the match, Jan de Boer was voted man of the match. But instead of the usual bottle of Champagne or meaningful souvenir, Bryne Club presented their goalkeeper with four trays of eggs.
The egg giveaway is the club’s way of celebrating its links with the local farming industry, which is dominated by meat and dairy production. Bryne fans also proudly chant “we’re farmers and proud of it” from the stands.
After the match, De Boer was pictured holding trays of eggs. The team will face Kristiansund on April 6, and this time, the best player of the match will be promised cartons of local fresh milk instead of eggs. This is Bryne's way of continuing to honor its unique tradition.
Bryne have returned to the Norwegian top flight for the first time since 2003, after finishing second in the Norwegian First Division in the 2024 season. Erling Haaland started his career at Bryne in 2016 before moving to Molde a year later. Bryne is also the home town of the Manchester City striker.
