According to The Nation , Thailand has also stopped supplying oil and broadband internet to the areas. Thailand's National Security Council said there is evidence that transnational criminal gangs operate in some border areas in Myanmar. Last month, the Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper said the scam centers were supplied with electricity and internet from abroad and were invested by "foreign organizations". Since October 2023, Myanmar has deported more than 55,000 foreigners forced to work in the scam centers, mostly Chinese.
