Mr. Lo Van Dong, Chairman of Muong Chum Commune People's Committee, said: Along with completing and upgrading infrastructure, the intra-field canal system, serving production, in recent years, the commune has mobilized people to shift the structure of crops and livestock appropriately, produce in the direction of goods; apply scientific and technical advances in production to improve productivity, product quality, increase income, and improve life.

Currently, the total cultivated area of Muong Chum commune is nearly 2,800 hectares, with grain output reaching 5,620 tons/year. The commune has nearly 640 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds; 270 hectares of sugarcane raw materials for Son La Sugarcane Factory; 114 hectares of seed corn and sweet corn sold to Chieng Sung Agricultural Joint Stock Company and DOVECO Son La Company. Livestock farming is focused on expanding the scale of the herd, associated with improving the quality of livestock, with over 62,700 cattle and poultry. Households in the center of the commune develop service businesses. Over 1,400 workers go to work in the provinces, raising the employment rate to 97%. The average income is 42 million VND/person/year; the poverty rate has decreased to 5.4%. The material and spiritual life of the people is constantly improving.

Established in 2023, the Pat village agricultural cooperative has 8 members, with a production scale of 10 hectares of agricultural land. To ensure product output, the cooperative has cooperated with DOVECO Son La Company to supply sweet corn products. Mr. Lo Van Nho, Director of the cooperative, said: Promoting the potential and advantages in the locality, the cooperative has mobilized members to convert corn and cassava to sweet corn. In 2023, the cooperative planted 10 hectares of sweet corn, with an average yield of 15 tons/ha; the selling price was from 4,500-5,000 VND/kg, excluding costs, earning 500 million VND. After harvesting sweet corn, in the winter crop, the entire cooperative area planted beans, with an output of 30 tons of beans of all kinds, with a price of 20,000-25,000 VND/kg, excluding costs, earning over 450 million VND. In 2024, the cooperative hopes to access preferential loans to provide seeds and fertilizers to people, expanding production scale to 40 hectares.

Mr. Lo Van Toan, Pat village, changed the crop structure with a strawberry growing model. In 2020, after visiting the strawberry growing model in Co Noi commune, Mai Son district, he discussed with his family to improve the land, buy seeds and grow strawberries. His family borrowed 100 million VND from the district's Agricultural and Rural Development Bank to invest in an automatic irrigation system. With 3,000m2, each strawberry crop, after deducting costs, earns a profit of 200 million VND.

In addition, with the investment attention of the State, the infrastructure system, electricity, roads, schools, and medical stations of the commune are increasingly spacious. The projects after investment have been effective, serving trade, promoting the development of agricultural production in the direction of goods, helping people to rise up and become rich legitimately in their homeland. In 2023, the whole commune has 1,100 households achieving the title of cultural family; 309 households achieving the title of cultural family for 3 consecutive years; 100% of the villages have a mass art troupe, contributing to improving the cultural and spiritual life of the people.

Promoting the achieved results, Muong Chum commune continues to encourage people to develop livestock models, grow fruit trees with high economic value, replicate household economic models, gradually improve living standards and speed up the progress of building advanced new rural areas.
