According to a VNA correspondent in Jakarta, Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin discussed bilateral cooperation in modernizing defense equipment and systems to ensure security.
The discussion took place on June 1, on the sidelines of the 21st Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore from May 31 to June 2.
During the discussion, Mr. Prabowo appreciated the US support in modernizing equipment for the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), as well as the continuous cooperation and well-maintained relationship between Indonesia and the US.

He said both Indonesia and the United States affirmed the importance of bilateral cooperation in modernizing defense equipment and systems to enhance the ability to effectively handle threats.
In addition, on this occasion, Mr. Prabowo and Minister Lloyd Austin also discussed possible measures to strengthen the long-term partnership between the two countries and pursue common interests.
The Shangri-La Dialogue is Asia's premier defense summit, where defense leaders discuss the region's most pressing security challenges, engage in important bilateral talks, and jointly develop new approaches.
The Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 attracts about 550 delegates from 40 countries around the world to discuss serious security challenges facing the region and the world .
