The Vietnamese team unexpectedly conceded a goal despite having a good position against host China.

Before the match, the Chinese team was rated higher when ranked 15 places above Vietnam in the FIFA rankings. The two teams met in the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup, Vietnam lost 2-3 in the first leg, but won 3-1 in the second leg at home at My Dinh Stadium.

Entering the match, coach Philippe Troussier continued to experiment with the lineup without a real striker. Quang Hai sat on the bench, Van Toan started from the start. The starting lineup of the Vietnamese team was 3-5-2.

In the 3rd minute, China was the team that created the first dangerous opportunity. Fang Hao escaped down the right wing and had an accurate cross but no player finished.

Vietnamese fans were shocked when, in the 12th minute, Wu Xi quickly seized the opportunity to score against the Vietnamese team, but the goal was not recognized because Tuan Anh was fouled.

In the 28th minute, Tuan Hai broke through the opposing defenders alone, but missed the final steps to be able to shoot strongly at the Chinese goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the ball went wide of the goal.

It can be seen that in the first 45 minutes, the Chinese team often made mid-range passes to break through the Vietnamese defense, partially effective in causing danger to Van Lam's goal.

In the second half, Dinh Bac came on to replace Van Toan. A young player, only 19 years old, replaced his experienced senior in a match without a goal.

In the first minutes of the half, we organized a quick siege, making it impossible for the Chinese players to organize an attack. However, when we coordinated well, the Chinese players took advantage of the rare opportunities effectively.

The turning point of the match came in the 56th minute with the opening goal belonging to China. The new player who came on as a substitute in the second half - Wang Qiuming received a pass from his teammate and finished with 1 stroke to defeat Van Lam. China temporarily took a 1-0 lead.

Despite being behind, the Vietnamese team still controlled the ball. In the 58th minute, coach Troussier continued to make substitutions, Thai Son replaced Tuan Anh, Ho Van Cuong replaced Truong Tien Anh.

While we were unable to seize the opportunity to equalize, the Vietnamese team continued to change when real strikers entered the field. In the 79th minute, Tien Linh and Van Khang entered the field to replace Viet Hung and Van Cuong.

Despite the added attacking power, we still did not have an equalizer. It seemed that the match would end with a result of 1 - 0, but right in the 90+8 minute of extra time, Wu Lei stole the ball from a bad pass in Vietnam's home field, this player broke through and defeated goalkeeper Van Lam in a face-to-face situation, raising the score to 2 - 0 for the Chinese team.

This was also the final score of the international friendly match between Vietnam and host China.

During FIFA Days in October, the Vietnamese team will have two more friendly matches with Uzbekistan and South Korea.
