According to a VNA correspondent in New Delhi, on May 1, at the National Museum in New Delhi (India), the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, in coordination with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) and the Vietnamese Embassy in India, solemnly held a ceremony to receive and bring the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni to Vietnam, on the occasion of the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak taking place from May 2-21 in Vietnam.

Also attending the ceremony were more than 120 Vietnamese monks and nuns studying in India, representatives of the Indian Government , the World Buddhist Federation and many international Buddhists.
According to Venerable Thich Nhat Tu, the procession of Buddha's relics to Vietnam has three great meanings.

First of all, this is a vivid symbol of the friendship and deep trust between Vietnam and India, especially in the fields of culture and Buddhism.
Second, the arrival of the Buddha's relics - honored as the National Treasure of India - to Vietnam represents an extremely sacred spiritual and cultural gift that the Government and people of India have given on the occasion of the 2025 Vesak Festival in Vietnam.
Third, the event opens up opportunities for the global Buddhist community to come to Vietnam to worship the relics, contributing to enhancing Vietnam's role as a bridge connecting culture and spirituality in the world Buddhist community.
On the night of May 1, the Buddha's relics were carried by the Indian Government's military aircraft from the capital New Delhi in a solemn atmosphere and will be enshrined in Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of May 2.
The delegation accompanying the relics was led by Mr. Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Law and Justice of India, along with monks from many regions of India, representatives of the Maha Bodhi Society, the National Museum of India, IBC and a large number of international reporters.
On the morning of May 2, the ceremony to welcome the Buddha's relics at Tan Son Nhat airport will be attended by the Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang; Minister of Ethnic Affairs and Religion Dao Ngoc Dung; leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, along with a large number of monks, nuns, Buddhists and people.
Previously, on April 30, IBC solemnly held a relic worship ceremony at the National Museum in New Delhi with the participation of officials from the Vietnamese Embassy, Vietnamese representative agencies in India, monks and nuns, and the Vietnamese community living and studying here.
Welcoming the Buddha's relics to Vietnam within the framework of the United Nations Vesak 2025 is not only a sacred Buddhist activity, but also a meaningful cultural and spiritual exchange occasion, further strengthening the close friendship between Vietnam and India, two countries that share a long-standing Buddhist cultural foundation./.
