According to information from Vietnamese representative agencies in Russia, Japan and the United States, the situation of the Vietnamese community in areas affected by the earthquake and tsunami is currently safe.

On the afternoon of July 31, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said that regarding the large earthquake in Kamchatka (Russian Federation) and the tsunami warning along the Pacific coast of Japan, the United States and some areas of Alaska (United States), according to information from Vietnamese representative agencies in Russia, Japan as well as in the United States, the situation of the Vietnamese community in the affected areas is currently safe.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said this at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when reporters asked about the recent earthquake and tsunami that occurred in the Eastern Sea of the Russian Federation and led to tsunami warnings in Japan and the United States; requested to know whether the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued any warnings to Vietnamese citizens and how to support citizens in these areas.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang, immediately after receiving information about the earthquake as well as tsunami warnings from local authorities in the countries, Vietnamese representative agencies in Russia, Japan and the United States proactively contacted Vietnamese community leaders to check the situation of citizens, advised citizens to immediately move to safe areas and regularly monitor news, comply with recommendations and safety measures of local authorities.

According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, implementing the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese diplomatic missions in other countries are continuing to maintain emergency response mechanisms until the tsunami warning ends and monitoring information and safety measures implemented by local authorities related to the tsunami and maintaining contact with Vietnamese community contacts in other countries to promptly advise citizens on prevention and control and take measures to support citizens in emergency situations, if necessary.

"The most important information for us now is that the Vietnamese community in areas where tsunami and earthquake warnings have been issued is still safe," Ms. Pham Thu Hang emphasized.
