In recent years, Dong Nai province has made many efforts in sustainable poverty reduction, especially in disadvantaged areas, ethnic minority areas and remote rural areas. Not only stopping at supporting housing or livelihoods, Dong Nai is focusing on strong investment in grassroots healthcare , improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, expanding health insurance and universal health care - considering this as the key to preventing re-poverty and ensuring long-term security.

Practical support to help poor households rise up
Implementing the sustainable poverty reduction program, Dong Nai has deployed a series of multi-dimensional support policies to help poor households not only have enough food but also have the opportunity to rise up. Over the past years, the province has supported tens of thousands of poor and near-poor households through preferential credit programs, vocational training, housing construction support and health insurance. In particular, the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses has been accelerated, bringing about clear results.
In the first quarter of 2025 alone, Dong Nai has completed the construction and repair of nearly 600 houses for poor and near-poor households, far exceeding the planned target. Solid and spacious houses not only help people settle down but also give them more confidence and motivation to focus on working and producing, and escape poverty sustainably.
At the same time, the province continues to promote vocational training programs for rural workers, helping people have stable jobs and increase their income. Mobilizing social resources from businesses, organizations and charitable individuals has made an important contribution to social security and poverty reduction.
Investment in health is key to sustainable poverty reduction
One of the important pillars of the poverty reduction program is to ensure that people, especially vulnerable groups, have access to basic and high-tech health services. Because reality shows that for the poor, just one serious illness can plunge the whole family back into poverty.
Realizing that, Dong Nai has focused on expanding the health insurance network, raising the coverage rate to over 91% of the population, in which all poor and near-poor people are granted free cards or high-level support. Commune-level health facilities have been invested in upgrading equipment, expanding medical examination and treatment areas, and improving physical facilities to better serve the health care needs of the people.
The province also focuses on improving the quality of medical staff at the grassroots level, implementing professional training courses, and transferring techniques from upper-level hospitals. Community health programs such as expanded immunization, maternal and child health care, and prevention of child malnutrition are widely deployed to each commune, village, and hamlet.
Regional gaps and challenges in healthcare access
Despite many positive results, the reality still shows a significant difference in access to health services between regions. In some remote communes, people still have to travel far to reach hospitals with modern equipment. Access to advanced medical techniques such as specialized surgery, in-depth clinical testing, etc. is still out of reach for many poor households.
In addition, although child malnutrition, especially stunting, has decreased, it is still present in areas with high poverty rates. The maternal and under-five mortality rates in some disadvantaged areas are still significantly higher than the provincial average. These figures show that, in addition to material support, investment in health, nutrition and community health care still needs to be given more priority to create equity in development.
Promoting community strength and humane policies
A bright spot in the poverty reduction work in Dong Nai is the active participation of the community. Many localities have mobilized the people, organizations and businesses to join hands to support poor households, from building houses, giving health insurance cards, to organizing free medical examination and treatment. This consensus has helped people have more confidence in the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State.
In addition, the province is also promoting the application of information technology in poor household management, ensuring publicity and transparency, avoiding duplication or omission of subjects. The assessment of multidimensional poverty standards for the period 2022-2025 is carried out closely to reality, helping support policies go in the right direction and be suitable for each population group.

Towards the goal of "leaving no one behind"
In the coming period, Dong Nai aims to not only reduce the poverty rate but also improve the quality of life for people, especially in disadvantaged areas. The province continues to develop primary health care, upgrade provincial hospitals, expand medical examination and treatment services using health insurance, ensuring that everyone – wherever they are – can access safe, quality medical services.
School nutrition programs, maternal and child health care, and community disease prevention will continue to be implemented synchronously. At the same time, the province encourages sustainable livelihood models, production development associated with local characteristics, helping people proactively rise out of poverty.
Poverty reduction is not only about eliminating hunger, but also about creating a foundation for people to live healthily, have conditions to study, work and develop comprehensively. When health is guaranteed, the opportunity to escape poverty is truly sustainable. With the strong determination of the government and the consensus of the whole society, Dong Nai is getting closer to the goal of "leaving no one behind" - so that all people can enjoy the fruits of fair and humane development.
