To make school a safe environment

School violence is no longer an isolated phenomenon but is becoming a worrying social issue. Recent incidents show that the cause lies not only in personal conflicts but also in the lack of attention to moral education and behavioral skills for students.

Families, schools, sectors and levels need to join hands to take strong action to prevent from the root, build a safe, friendly and humane school environment, suitable for school age.

The problem of school violence

Since the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, Dong Nai province has not recorded any serious school violence cases that have affected the health and lives of students. Most of the minor incidents with signs of conflicts between students have been discovered and resolved.

However, in some other provinces and cities, conflicts and clashes between students are still complicated, mainly stemming from small disagreements in communication, conflicts on social networks or lack of restraint in behavior.

For example, recently, on the evening of November 7, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City informed about the case of two female students in grade 8 of PA Secondary School (An Phu Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) fighting in the school restroom. Accordingly, on October 11, 2025, due to a small conflict while going to the restroom, the two students fought, while many other students stood by and watched but no one intervened. The school held a disciplinary meeting, suspended the two female students who directly fought for 7 days and lowered their conduct; 8 students who filmed and cheered were suspended from school for 3 days.

Similarly, in early November 2025, at A.D. Secondary School (Ho Chi Minh City), there was an incident where 6 female 8th grade students beat up a classmate in the restroom. Notably, many other female students stood around filming the clip, not only did not intervene but also cheered. These incidents are no longer rare occurrences in the school environment, causing great concern to public opinion.

There have even been serious cases of school violence that have resulted in minors being prosecuted. For example, Hanoi City Police have just prosecuted NQA (17 years old) and PTĐ. (18 years old, both residing in Soc Son commune) to investigate the act of humiliating others and disturbing public order. Previously, on October 14, A. and D.'s group met male student NDT (15 years old) and then stopped him, forced the victim and another friend to kneel, crawl, lick the motorbike's license plate and filmed a video to post on TikTok. The clip went viral, causing public outrage. During the investigation, the authorities identified 6 teenagers involved, of whom those under 16 years old were handed over to their families and local authorities for management. The incident once again sounded the alarm about school violence and acts of human dignity abuse on social networks among young people today.

Build a fence to protect children

Mr. Ho Truong Giang, a psychologist in Dong Nai, commented: Recently, there have been some small conflicts between students that did not stop at just exchanging words but turned into fights. These deviant behaviors not only caused serious injuries to the victims but also left psychological “scars” on the students who witnessed them.

According to psychologist Ho Truong Giang, the cause of school violence does not only stem from personal conflicts but is also the result of many intertwined factors such as: students' lack of emotional management skills, negative influence of social networks, laxity in family and school education. During adolescence, children often have impulsive psychology, easily provoked by the words and actions of others. Meanwhile, students' skills in controlling, resolving conflicts and understanding others are very limited. When they cannot find sharing and listening from adults, small grievances can be pushed into violent behavior, especially when there are elements of encouragement and challenge on social networks.

Principal of Tran Bien High School PHAM THI THANH HA said: Parents need to spend more time caring for and listening to their children, understanding their psychology and friendships to promptly orient when there are signs of conflict or disagreement. The family must be a place to sow the foundation of love and kindness, helping children understand that any act of violence, no matter how small, can cause harm to others and themselves.

Therefore, to prevent this situation, it is necessary to start with personality education and life skills through experiential activities, psychological dialogues and social emotional classes. Schools need to build an early warning mechanism, strengthen the team of professional school counselors to support students with psychological problems and conflicts with friends. In particular, families must be the "first barrier", paying more attention to their children, not only in studying but also in their emotions and relationships. In addition, authorities and mass organizations need to coordinate closely in propagating and strictly handling acts of violence; at the same time, spreading positive and loving values in the current school environment.

Principal of Tran Bien High School Pham Thi Thanh Ha said: The school pays special attention to propaganda and legal education for students, considering this a fundamental solution to prevent school violence.

As a mother and also a manager, teacher Pham Thi Thanh Ha believes that the core of preventing violence is not only in rules or discipline but in building human values within each student, helping students to love, sympathize and share with friends. Every week, during flag-raising hours and classes, teachers will share real stories, lessons on ethics and compassion so that students can listen, feel and form the right way of behaving. At the same time, the school organizes many clubs, cultural, artistic, physical education and sports playgrounds and law-learning competitions, helping students connect, create positive energy, stay away from negative behaviors and contribute to building a safe and humane school environment.
