The investment project to build this hospital was approved by the People's Committee of Can Tho City on January 25, 2017, with a total investment of more than 1,700 billion VND, of which ODA loan capital from Hungary is more than 1,393 billion VND.

After many years of implementation, the project has only completed more than 21% of the contract value for design, equipment supply, technology and construction. Of which, the construction category has reached 82%, the construction equipment supply and installation category has completed more than 16%.

The contract between the Department of Health and the consortium of contractors expired on July 10, 2022. The project's loan agreement, signed for the second time between the Ministry of Finance and Eximbank Hungary, expired on July 11, 2022. Therefore, the project has been "shelved" in the past time.

Voters request construction and putting the hospital into use

Recently, voters continued to complain about the construction of the Can Tho City Oncology Hospital taking too long and requested solutions to put the project into use soon.

Director of Can Tho City Department of Health - Mr. Hoang Quoc Cuong said that to remove difficulties and obstacles and soon restart this project, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang has organized two working sessions with the city and related ministries. The meetings aimed to analyze and evaluate possible scenarios to find feasible solutions to continue implementing the project.

“The Department of Health has provided all relevant documents for ministries and branches to study and support in removing difficulties and obstacles. At the same time, the unit proactively works with the joint venture contractor to discuss and agree on a solution related to the EPC contract ( main contract - PV )” - Mr. Cuong said.

In addition, the head of the Can Tho City health sector informed that the Department has reviewed and completed the adjusted pre-feasibility study report, sent it to departments and branches for comments and submitted it to competent authorities for consideration and decision.

After the resolution of Can Tho City People's Council, the Department of Health completed the dossier to submit to the City People's Committee, and sent it to the Ministry of Planning and Investment to organize the appraisal and adjustment of the investment policy according to regulations.

“After the Prime Minister’s decision to adjust the investment policy is made, the Department of Health will organize the adjustment of the feasibility study report. This is the basis for submitting to the Can Tho City People’s Committee to carry out the project adjustment procedures,” Mr. Cuong answered voters’ questions.
