On March 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky affirmed that US President Donald Trump's support remains "important" for Ukraine, despite a fierce argument a day earlier with his US counterpart at the White House.
President Zelensky wrote on the X network: "It is very important for us to have the support of President Trump. He wants to end the conflict, but no one wants peace more than us. American assistance has been very important for our survival and I want to acknowledge this. Despite difficult dialogue, we remain Strategic Partners."
At the same time, the Ukrainian President called on the US to "be frank and direct with each other to understand common goals."
He affirmed that he is still ready to sign an agreement allowing the US access to Ukraine's strategic minerals, despite the failure of negotiations due to the controversy in Washington.
Mr Zelensky said such a deal, allowing US companies access to Ukraine's mineral resources, "would be a first step towards security guarantees", although Washington has ruled out providing such guarantees to Kiev. However, he stressed that the deal was "not enough" and that "the Ukrainians need to know that the United States is on their side".
"I want the United States to stand more strongly on our side," Mr. Zelensky emphasized, adding that he "understands that the United States is seeking dialogue with Russia."
Regarding Ukraine, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Aleksandr Syrsky announced that the military supported President Zelensky after the argument with Mr. Trump. Prime Minister Denis Shmygal also supported Mr. Zelensky, declaring that he was "right" in the view that there can be no "peace without security".
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stressed that Mr. Zelensky "had the courage and strength to fight for justice".
