    According to Resolution 60 at the 11th meeting of the 13th Party Central Committee, the policy on the number of provincial-level administrative units after the merger is 34 provinces and cities (28 provinces and 6 centrally-run cities).
    Of which, 21 localities border the sea, including: Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, Ca Mau, Can Tho, An Giang , Vinh Long and Dong Thap.

    Vietnam currently has 28 coastal provinces and cities with 125 coastal districts, stretching along a coastline of more than 3,260 km, from Quang Ninh to Kien Giang .
    From North to South, the coastal provinces are: Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria - Vung Tau , Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau and Kien Giang.

    After the merger, Khanh Hoa province also became the province with the longest coastline in the country, with nearly 500km (Khanh Hoa 385km, Ninh Thuan 105km).
    Previously, Khanh Hoa was still ranked No. 1 in terms of coastline length with 385km, with many estuaries, lagoons, bays, many islands and vast sea areas. The coastline of Quang Ninh province is 250km long, and that of Quang Binh is more than 116km.
