The above content is included in the draft Circular regulating rewards and discipline for students, which is being consulted by the Ministry of Education and Training since May 6.
Specifically, students are disciplined if they violate the Lawon Education , school regulations or competent authorities. Depending on the severity, primary school students are warned or asked to apologize; secondary and high school students are warned, criticized or asked to write a self-criticism.
The Ministry of Education and Training said that discipline aims to prevent, stop and handle student violations. At the same time, it helps students to be aware of their violations; to voluntarily adjust their behavior, overcome the consequences, voluntarily cultivate and practice to improve and form disciplined habits and lifestyles.
However, discipline must ensure proactiveness and positivity in exercising students' rights, obligations and responsibilities; maintain discipline and order in the school; respect, tolerance, objectivity, no prejudice, and ensure students' right to participate and benefits in related issues.
In addition, it is necessary to ensure that it is appropriate to the psychological, gender, physical, family circumstances, and regional cultural characteristics of each student. Do not use disciplinary measures that are violent, insulting to dignity, or affect the physical and mental health of students.
Regulations on student rewards and discipline have been in place since 1988. The forms of student discipline include reprimands in front of the class and school, warnings in front of the whole school, expulsion for a week and expulsion for a year. In 2020, the Ministry of Education and Training issued school regulations, eliminating the form of criticism in front of the class and school. The highest level of discipline for students is temporary suspension from school.
If the new regulation is passed, the highest level of discipline for students is writing a self-criticism.
