According to Ms. Hoang Thi Tu Anh - Literature teacher at Vietnam - Poland High School, Hoang Mai District, Hanoi , although candidates are happy because they have reviewed "right on target", the Literature exam for the 2024 high school graduation exam will not be easy for them to get good scores if they do not have a solid grasp of the knowledge. This year's exam is intended to classify students but is not surprising. Average students with a solid grasp of basic knowledge can achieve 6-7 points, which is enough to ensure graduation.
Specifically, in Part I Reading Comprehension (3.0 points), with 04 questions set up according to a matrix at three cognitive levels (Recognition - Understanding - Application), there are specific and clear requirements so candidates will not encounter any obstacles during the test.
With the first two questions, candidates can easily recognize "what makes up the history of human art" (question 1) and the role of "the previous generation of artists with the next generation of artists" (question 2) from the text.
Question 3 states the effect of associating the flow of the river with the history of artistic creation, all candidates can answer. Question 04 is at the application level, requiring candidates to draw lessons about lifestyle for themselves through the author's reflection. Candidates need to pay attention to giving short, accurate answers and focusing on the content of the answer. The average score for the reading comprehension section is 2-2.5 points.
In Part II, Writing (7.0 points), the familiar structure remains, consisting of 2 parts: Writing a social argumentative paragraph (2.0 points) presenting a problem drawn from the reading comprehension passage and the literary argumentative essay (5.0 points) in the Grade 12 Literature program.
Question 1 (2.0 points): The command has provided complete and accurate specific requirements for candidates to be able to write a paragraph of about 200 words about an aspect of the problem drawn from the excerpt of the reading comprehension section, which is the requirement: "From the content of the excerpt in the Reading comprehension section, write a paragraph (about 200 words) presenting your thoughts on "the meaning of respecting individuality". To complete the task well, candidates need to have a practical connection with their own perception and actions in respecting the individuality of others, think about being straightforward when facing a problem, or choosing a harmonious action or word...
However, avoid giving general, inaccurate, and empty evidence that makes the essay cumbersome and lacking in key content. The lesson part is closely related to the student and not unfamiliar to the student. The average score for question 1 is 1.5 points.
In question 2 (5.0 points), the literary essay still uses the familiar topic structure: analyze the first 18 verses in the excerpt "Country" by Nguyen Khoa Diem and is a command with 2 parts corresponding to 2 requirements: analyze the excerpt and comment on "the combination of Nguyen Khoa Diem's emotions and thoughts expressed in the poem".
This is the first part of the excerpt Country is the perception of the origin of the Country, explaining the formation of the Country in two aspects of time and space. Candidates need to analyze Nguyen Khoa Diem's new perceptions in terms of space - time, the poet's emotions and from there have a connection to the comment "the combination of Nguyen Khoa Diem's emotions and thoughts" (requirement number 2).
According to Ms. Tu Anh, although the literary essay question is quoted from the work studied in the program, to synthesize the content and present the combination of emotions and thoughts of Nguyen Khoa Diem expressed in the poem, many candidates will certainly find it difficult and confused in the process of doing the test. Moreover, analyzing a relatively long 18-verse poem, candidates can easily lose points if they do not know how to allocate time reasonably and write concisely according to the main arguments.
With this year’s exam, Ms. Tu Anh predicts that the average score of candidates this year will be between 6.5 and 7.5 points. Students who have a solid grasp of the knowledge and are proficient in the skills to do new types of questions can achieve good and excellent scores.
