With its central location in Hue cultural heritage and the connecting center of Da Nang, the Central region is not only an attractive destination for tourists but is also taking new steps to increase the appeal in tourism development.
Hue - "regenerating heritage," creating cultural space
Director of Hue City Department of Tourism Tran Thi Hoai Tram said: On the basis of 8 cultural heritages recognized by the United NationsEducational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Hue has not "slept" on memory.
Every palace, relic, festival, craft village… is being awakened with proactive and creative conservation thinking.
The restored works such as Ngo Mon Gate, Kien Trung Palace, Thai Hoa Palace... comply with international standards, linking conservation with sustainable economic and tourism development. Hue people also actively preserve their identity and traditional cultural values.
Hue is a pioneer in applying technology to heritage conservation and developing smart tourism.
The “Hue Heritage Digitization” project not only protects values from the risk of damage, but also expands visitors’ access through online platforms, interactive maps, and virtual reality (VR/AR). Applications such as smart tourism maps, online ticket booking, and the Hue-S app are changing the way visitors explore destinations.
Recently, UNESCO has recognized Hue's efforts in preserving and promoting heritage values - a strategic step to serve the growing tourism demand.
More than 100 relics have been and are being digitized, including many works such as Tu Duc Tomb and An Dinh Palace, which have been built in 3D thanks to support from Switzerland and Japan.
“Hue is the first locality in the country to deploy electronic tickets for sightseeing, digital tourist maps, and artificial intelligence applications to suggest itineraries. We are accelerating cooperation with technology corporations to digitize all tourism data, providing seamless experiences, especially attractive to young people through applications such as Hue City Passport - Hue Tourist Passport. Tourists can touch the heritage, memories and cultural depth with many senses,” Ms. Tran Thi Hoai Tram emphasized.
Hue is gradually realizing the goal of becoming a national center for preserving and promoting unique cultural heritage values.
The Hue Monuments Conservation Center has developed a medium-term restoration plan (2025–2030), aiming for the goals that by 2045, works such as Thai Mieu, Can Chanh Palace, Gia Long Tomb... will receive synchronous investment, ensuring both historical and aesthetic values.
International cooperation programs in the fields of culture, education, and community exchange are also expanding Hue's influence in the network of Asian heritage cities.
“The Hue experience is a memory experience - quiet, subtle and profound. Hue proactively connects with Da Nang, Quang Nam and other localities to form the "Central Heritage Road" linking axis, building a chain of inter-regional products imbued with cultural identity - heritage - resort.
We do not only do tourism, we create a cultural living space, where tourists and locals share culture, nature, history, and daily life. Every experience in Hue is a complete piece of memory, culture, and future" - Ms. Tran Thi Hoai Tram shared.

Da Nang develops medical tourism
On March 31, 2025, the People's Committee of Da Nang City issued a plan to develop medical tourism for the period 2025-2030, with a vision to 2050. This is an important milestone, contributing to making medical tourism a solution to improve service quality, modernize the medical examination and treatment system to integrate with regional and world standards.
The goal is to build a modern healthcare system, develop a number of key areas to turn Da Nang's medical sector into a healthcare center in Southeast Asia.
Medical tourism is developed in conjunction with local potential, creating new momentum for city tourism.
According to the plan, by 2030, Da Nang will have over 15/29 hospitals and medical centers with areas qualified to receive international visitors; at least 2 facilities will meet international standards in terms of expertise and service quality.
Director of the Da Nang City Department of Health Tran Thanh Thuy said: Many international hospitals and clinics in Da Nang have received and treated foreigners living and working in the city. Some facilities have invested in separate treatment areas, online consultation and appointment systems.
Some tourists come to Da Nang for dental and cosmetic treatments combined with relaxation, bringing positive communication effects. Some relaxation tours combined with traditional medicine therapy have been deployed; some medical facilities cooperate with travel agencies and hotels to introduce short-term health check-up services.
Medical tourism is the intersection of the healthcare ecosystem and the tourism ecosystem, requiring multidisciplinary coordination between healthcare, hotels and resorts, transportation, technology, and insurance.
To effectively develop medical tourism, it requires international standard medical infrastructure, a team of specialized doctors and nurses with foreign language skills, a comprehensive care service chain, favorable visa and insurance policies, and cross-border medical communication.
To realize the plan, Dr. Bui Ngoc Nhu Nguyet, Da Nang Institute for Socio-Economic Development, proposed the need to establish a specialized agency for medical tourism; develop an effective promotion strategy for each customer segment; improve the quality of healthcare, exploit the advantages of traditional medicine and alternative medicine; train experts with good expertise and foreign languages; invest in hospitals that meet the US JCI (Joint Commission International) standards; and apply a favorable visa policy for international visitors. Integrating high-quality medical services with resort tourism activities is an inevitable trend.
As the center of the Central region, with modern infrastructure and an increasingly developed medical network, Da Nang is becoming the leading medical tourism destination in the Central Highlands and Central Vietnam, reaching out to the region and the world./.
