Travel companies predict that the international tour market will sell better than domestic tours during the major year-end holidays of Christmas and New Year.
According to VnExpress , the prices of both international and domestic tours during New Year and Christmas are about 5-15% higher. The situation of domestic airfare being more expensive than a package tour abroad is no longer the same as during previous major holidays.
According to statistics from the ticket office of Best Price travel company, the price of a round-trip air ticket from Hanoi to Phu Quoc during New Year's Eve is about 5.6 million VND; an increase of about 1.3 times compared to normal days.
Meanwhile, the New Year's tour to Thailand, Hanoi - Bangkok - Pattaya route, is sold for about 9.6 million VND per person. From Ho Chi Minh City, the company's statistics show that the average domestic round-trip airfare is about 3 million VND; meanwhile, the Thailand tour costs about 7.9 million VND.

Major domestic routes have an average increase of about 1.4 times compared to normal days during Christmas and 1.8 times compared to normal days during the holidays. For international routes, Best Price data shows that routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Asian destinations such as Bangkok (Thailand), Singapore (Singapore), Seoul (Korea), Taipei (Taiwan) or Tokyo (Japan) have an average increase of 1.29 times during Christmas and 1.57 times during New Year.
Although there is no longer a huge difference between domestic round-trip airfare and international package tours, most travel companies predict that international tours will still sell better during Christmas and New Year.
Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Director of Marketing and Communications Department of Vietluxtour, said that 70% of tour products for these two holidays have been sold, the business plan for foreign tours has basically been completed, only a few seats remain for Southeast Asian and domestic routes.
Benthanh Tourist said that it has filled about 40% of its seats with foreign tours, and the number of visitors is increasing every day. The top destinations for tourists are Northeast Asia and Europe. The Japan tour, Tokyo - Fuji - Nagoya - Kyoto - Osaka, priced at about VND43 million per person, is sold out. Ms. Tran Phuong Linh, the company's Marketing and Information Technology Director, confirmed that the domestic market is still quite quiet, with many customers asking but not buying.
At Trang An Travel, Mr. Nguyen Huu Cuong, general director of the company, said that 60% of customers choose to buy European tours because the company's strength is long-distance international tours. Affordable international tour products such as tours to China, Korea, and Japan have been fully booked since November. According to Mr. Cuong, this year, the demand for Christmas and New Year's travel is about 30% higher than the same period last year.
Best Price also recorded that the number of international package tours achieved better sales than domestic package tours. However, if we include individual services such as airline tickets, hotel rooms, and domestic products, the sales are higher. Mr. Bui Thanh Tu, a representative of the company, said that long-distance tours such as Europe have been almost fully booked since November, only waiting for the visa to be issued. The characteristic of European tours is long-distance, about 10 days, so tourists will combine celebrating both Christmas and New Year abroad.
Regarding the domestic market, most travel agencies said that northern routes such as Hanoi - Bai Dinh - Ha Long or Hanoi - Sa Pa are receiving attention, along with some beach destinations such as Phan Thiet and Nha Trang. However, currently, most confirmed that the number of purchases is not much but it cannot be confirmed that the purchasing power is low because Vietnamese customers tend to close orders close to the date.
In addition, Agoda's statistics for the period from October 1 to November 28 on the number of successful bookings from December 23 to December 31 show a trend of independent travel. Specifically, the top five overseas destinations are Bangkok, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei and Singapore, respectively. Meanwhile, the top five domestic destinations include Da Lat, Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau, Hanoi and Da Nang .
