Rural tourism

BT - Besides its strengths in high-end resorts and unique recreational sports (on the sea, on sand dunes, etc.), Binh Thuan needs to continue to maximize its potential for sustainable tourism development, including rural tourism.

Fresh seafood is a popular attraction for tourists at various destinations in La Gi town.

The third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, which broke out in late January 2021, caused significant losses for the tourism industry nationwide, and in Binh Thuan province in particular, during the Lunar New Year holiday. While cancellations were common due to concerns about the disease at popular resorts that attract large crowds, many people still decided to "pack their bags and go" during the longest holiday of the year.

These tourists are mostly groups of friends, families, and relatives who decide to travel to the countryside to have new experiences and be closer to nature and the local people. Right after Tet (Lunar New Year), there were many posts shared on social media about the trip, receiving many positive comments about the peaceful scenery, simple lifestyle, local food, and regional products. They were also seen as a reasonable trip, choosing safe destinations and supporting the "Vietnamese people travel in Vietnam" campaign to help the tourism industry gradually recover and overcome this difficult period.

In the coming period, it is predicted that rural tourism will continue to be a popular choice for many people's holidays, especially given the uncertainty surrounding the end of the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, this type of tourism is expected to attract a wide range of visitors due to its low cost and ability to satisfy their desire to learn about history, culture, and discover new aspects of the destination. In particular, children traveling with their parents will have the opportunity to see, hear, and touch agricultural tools and equipment, as well as crops and livestock that they previously only knew about through textbooks or television.

In Binh Thuan, rural and community-based tourism has significant development potential in both the plains, mountainous areas, and coastal regions, requiring solutions to effectively exploit these potentials. Besides existing attractions such as the Bau Trang Eco-tourism Site (Bac Binh), the Binh Thanh - Co Thach Pagoda Tourist Area (Tuy Phong), and the Cam Binh Community Tourism Site and Dinh Thay Thim (La Gi), the province still boasts other attractive tourist destinations. These include: the Thac Ba Eco-tourism Area (Duc Thuan commune, Tanh Linh district), the Thac 3 Tang Eco-tourism Area (Da Kai commune, Duc Linh district), and spiritual tourism at Truc Lam Zen Monastery (Song Phan commune, Ham Tan district)... Alongside these, homestay services are developing in areas with strong tourism potential such as Phan Thiet City, La Gi town, Phu Quy Island, and dragon fruit orchard tours in Ham Thuan Nam district.

To contribute to this type of tourism, the local authorities are also considering planning the development of high-tech agricultural tourism zones in several key areas. The remaining issue is the early establishment and implementation of support mechanisms and policies to facilitate investment in the development of rural and community-based tourism models. This requires comprehensive planning, strict management, and ensuring a secure, safe, and friendly tourism environment... thereby contributing to diversifying tourism products and making Binh Thuan a more attractive destination.

Based on regional characteristics, rural and community-based tourism products in Binh Thuan province can be defined as follows: Bac Binh district focuses on sun-dried beef, cantaloupe, and monitor lizard meat; Tuy Phong district is associated with grapes, La Gan bird's eye chili, gum arabic, and medicinal herbs from the *Dinh Lang* plant; La Gi town is linked to fresh seafood; Tanh Linh district is associated with cashew nuts, snakehead fish, and various types of fine wood handicrafts; and Duc Linh district is known for Dong Ha green pomelo, Romo durian, coffee, and pepper. Phan Thiet city, on the other hand, is associated with a range of products including fish sauce, various seafood, dragon fruit, sticky rice flakes, rice crackers, and sand paintings.
