Need more power
With 10 years of experience in research and development (R&D) of medicinal products for the market, Ms. Hoang Dam Bach Nhat, Head of Marketing Department of Hoang Phong Dana Co., Ltd., said that R&D plays a key role in promoting business innovation, through product improvement activities, optimizing production processes and developing new solutions to meet market needs.
It can be said that R&D helps businesses not only keep up with technology and market trends, but also expand opportunities to develop new markets and enhance brand value.
However, R&D investments are costly, and not all initiatives are successful. In other words, the lag between R&D investments and the benefits they reap can be quite long, something that many small and medium-sized enterprises find difficult to balance.

Recently, the company has received much attention from management agencies such as the City Department of Science and Technology. Support in scientific knowledge and technology helps businesses access resources at reasonable costs, while at the same time promoting the innovation process, ensuring pioneering and exclusivity in product research.
“In the next 5 years, with support and connections from State agencies, we plan to focus on developing internal health care products using Vietnamese medicinal herbs, while expanding our own product lines to bring Vietnamese medicinal herbs to the international level,” Ms. Nhat shared.
Meanwhile, Mr. Pham Thanh Hoang, Director of Tay Giang Forest Garden Food Joint Stock Company (Hung Son commune) shared that the main product Tr'din Molasses is not only a technological research, but also a research on geography, biology and quality management process to ensure the "forest" (pure, natural) and safety of the product.
With its geographical location close to the border, businesses have the advantage of abundant local raw materials. However, to bring products to market, more support is needed, for example, through public-private partnerships, which are essential to help businesses have a clear direction from the stage of completing the raw material area until the product is brought to market.

Over the past 8 years of operation, Song Han Startup Incubator (SHi) has played a key role in the Da Nang startup ecosystem, especially in the fields of tourism and innovation, as one of the first private incubators in the Central region.
Mr. Ly Dinh Quan, Director of SHi, said that the unit is accelerating the conversion of scientific research results and technological innovations into commercialized products of practical value.
“We provide intensive training programs to help startups perfect their business models, optimize production processes, and most importantly, connect them directly with the market, strategic partners, and investment funds to ensure successful product launches, scalability, and sustainable revenue generation,” said Mr. Quan.

Dr. Pham Chau Huynh, Director of the Danang Biotechnology Center (under the Department of Science and Technology) said that since 2020, the Center has successfully built and defended a project to develop into an R&D complex in the South Central region.
After the project was approved, in parallel with the city government's investment in upgrading infrastructure and equipment, the Center promoted R&D activities and related activities to support businesses.
Activities include: conducting research to develop new products, improving existing products or adjusting technology according to business orders.
The center acts as the company's own R&D team, developing products according to the company's specific directions and orders; at the same time, advising and consulting on strategies for the company. In addition, it helps the company from the R&D stage to commercialization strategies and related legal documents.
Recently, the Center added the function of business incubation in the field of biotechnology. The Center requires scientists to have an entrepreneurial mindset to understand the difficulties of businesses, not only in R&D but also in organizational models and strategies.
We do R&D in parallel with incubation in a positive way, but in the Center's own way, very close to the business. In addition, the unit also supports manufacturing and processing businesses. The Center builds a production workshop with a scale equivalent to a small and medium factory, with enough capacity to produce large-scale products for businesses to test.
