The Road to Glory of Ngo Gia Tu High School (Vinh Phuc)

Ngo Gia Tu High School not only stands out on the education map of Vinh Phuc province because it has many good teachers and excellent students, but is also proud to have developed many party members who are students.

From this school, more than 4,000 teachers and students have joined the army to fight to protect the Fatherland. In the school grounds, there is a memorial to 236 teachers and students of the school who heroically sacrificed their lives in the resistance wars.

Ngo Gia Tu High School was established in 1962, the first high school in Lap Thach district. The school was recognized as national standard in 2006; achieved national standard level 2 in 2022; was awarded many noble awards by the Party and State such as the title of Labor Hero in the renovation period, the Third-class Independence Medal, and the First-class Labor Medal.

In the past 5 years, Ngo Gia Tu High School has always been in the top 4 high schools with the highest quality of excellent student exams in the province. The school's average high school graduation exam score ranked 9th among high schools in the province and the 12th grade graduation rate has been 100% for many consecutive years. The school's students have also won many medals and awards in other competitions.

In the 2023-2024 school year, the school won 260 provincial excellent student awards, including 11 first prizes, 53 second prizes, 89 third prizes and 107 consolation prizes, ranking 2nd in quality of awards and 3rd in number of awards compared to non-specialized high schools. The content of admitting party members who are students is included in the annual action program of the Party Committee and Party cells. The leaders of the Party cells assign party members to help union members who are students join the Party right from grade 10 if they see that the students have good achievements. In the past two years, Ngo Gia Tu High School has had 23 students admitted to the Party, which was commended by the leaders of Lap Thach District Party Committee.

To discover and nurture excellent students, the school's Board of Directors directly directs, inspects, and supervises exam preparation, organizes many specialized seminars to improve the quality of exam preparation for excellent students, and organizes many rounds of exams to select excellent students very seriously.

The gifted student team is established from grade 10 on the basis of investigating the background of students in middle school. Based on determining the students' talents, the school temporarily divides the 10th grade students into classes.

The class teacher immediately advises students about joining the team. For example, if a student in grade 9 is already on the Math team, the teacher will advise that student to continue on the school Math team. Quality emerges from this approach.

The Board of Directors assigns tasks for the next school year to teachers as early as April so that teachers can prepare. Professional groups are given the right to take the initiative in their work, agree on their own teaching framework, and divide tasks within the group. Thanks to that, the teaching staff is very united, proactive, and supportive of each other in their work, and voluntarily completes assigned tasks.

The selection of students to join the team goes through many rounds. In round 1, all students are allowed to attend training classes and compete at the school level. In round 2, the number is limited and the students are tested again. In round 3, the school finalizes the list. This selection is made public to parents.

In the 2023-2024 school year, there will be a total of 260 excellent students at the school level. After screening, 87 excellent students at the provincial level will be selected, and 16 of the most outstanding and comprehensive students will be admitted to the Party.

The students at the school are well-behaved and have a high sense of self-study. Many groups of students stay at school to study until the evening. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy Lam, a student in class 11A7 in the Geography team, confided: We take advantage of the time to study by ourselves. Outside of regular school hours, students can text their teachers to ask about their lessons or study together via Zoom software.

The school has conducted many surveys to collect opinions from students, teachers and parents. Teacher Trieu Van Hai, the school's principal, said: The survey is conducted immediately after students enter the school to orient their learning goals early. After grade 10, grade 11 and grade 12, the school conducts surveys to learn about students' choices and assessments.

For grade 11, the questions will be which teachers teach easily, which teachers are difficult to understand; which teachers do students like to study. For grade 12, the school will investigate the direction after graduating from high school, the need for competency assessment exams. Students preparing to graduate grade 12 are asked to give their opinions on the next class. Respondents do not need to write their names.

For 11th grade homeroom teachers, the school asks about how to organize union activities and extracurricular activities appropriately. The school also surveys and collects parents' opinions twice a year through questionnaires. Information from the survey helps the Principal and the Board of Directors adjust activities and orient the teaching program to meet the needs.
