Goalkeeper Filip Nguyen has completed the procedures to obtain Vietnamese citizenship since 2021. However, this player encountered many difficulties related to paperwork and had to follow some mandatory regulations (such as ensuring residence time).

This process was accelerated when Filip Nguyen returned to Vietnam to play for the Hanoi Police Club in June. Finally, the Czech goalkeeper has reaped the sweet fruit when his naturalization procedure is almost complete.
According to Dan Tri 's research, Filip Nguyen can complete the procedures and obtain Vietnamese nationality in early December. If this goes smoothly, the goalkeeper born in 1992 can compete in the 2023 Asian Cup (if summoned by Coach Troussier).
In the past, Filip Nguyen has repeatedly expressed his desire to play for the Vietnamese national team. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) does not have the authority to approve the naturalization process for the 31-year-old goalkeeper. However, the VFF regularly pays attention and tries to support the procedures and documents for the overseas Vietnamese goalkeeper.

Evaluating Filip Nguyen's talent, Coach Troussier said: "Filip Nguyen is in the process of applying for Vietnamese citizenship. From my observation, he has stable performance. Filip Nguyen has experience playing in Europe. I am sure he is a good addition to the national team."
At the 2023 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team is in the same group with Japan, Indonesia and Iraq. The team will play the opening match against Japan on January 14, 2024. This will be followed by matches against Indonesia (January 19) and Iraq (January 24).
