Filip Nguyen officially has Vietnamese nationality

Overseas Vietnamese goalkeeper Filip Nguyen has been officially recognized as a Vietnamese citizen and is eligible to play for the Vietnamese national team if called up by coach Philippe Troussier.

According to Tuoi Tre Online 's investigation on the afternoon of December 6, the goalkeeper of the Hanoi Police Club has obtained Vietnamese nationality. He will be named "Nguyen Filip" (with accents according to Vietnamese spelling) instead of "Nguyen Filip" (without accents). Having become a Vietnamese citizen, Filip Nguyen is eligible to play for the Vietnam national team. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will work with the Czech Republic Football Federation to complete the necessary procedures. Coach Philippe Troussier can register Filip Nguyen in the preliminary list for the 2023 Asian Cup finals taking place in January 2024 in Qatar. The deadline for the VFF to submit a preliminary list of players for the tournament is December 12, 2023. VFF leaders have made efforts to support Filip Nguyen in the application process. His family is trying to arrange their lives to return to Vietnam together. The Hanoi Police Club has also actively participated in helping Filip Nguyen. Nearly 5 years after applying for Vietnamese citizenship, the goalkeeper born in the Czech Republic has just fulfilled his dream of becoming a Vietnamese citizen as per his personal wishes. The 31-year-old goalkeeper's next wish is to serve the Vietnamese national team. The 2023 Asian Cup is the biggest tournament where Filip Nguyen can debut in the jersey of his father's homeland team. The 2023 Asian Cup will take place from January 12 to February 10 in Qatar. The Vietnamese team is in Group D with Japan, Indonesia and Iraq.
Filip Nguyen got married in August 2021 after having a baby boy in 2020. His wife, Ngo Aneta, is also a Vietnamese expatriate. His son is also named "Nguyen Filip", nearly 3 years old. Filip Nguyen's father is Mr. Nguyen Minh, his mother is Czech.
