Vietnam women's futsal faces difficulties, Thailand has a wide open door to the World Cup
Vietnam women's futsal team drew 0-0 with Iran in the final match of the group stage. That result helped coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team top Group B with the same 7 points as Iran but with a better goal difference.
However, winning the top spot in Group B has pushed the Vietnamese women's futsal team into a difficult bracket. In the quarter-finals, our girls will face a very strong opponent, Japan. In the last encounter with Japan in the Asian Cup, the Vietnamese women's futsal team suffered a 2-4 defeat. Right before this year's tournament, we also lost to Japan with a score of 1-4 in a friendly match.
On the FIFA rankings, Japan is ranked 10th in the world , 1 place higher than Vietnam women's futsal. However, we are still rated much lower than our opponents.
If they beat Japan, Vietnam women's futsal will face the winner of the match between Iran and Chinese Taipei. The West Asian team is the current champion of the Asian women's futsal tournament. They are ranked 9th in the world. Experts believe they will not have any difficulty against Chinese Taipei.
In the group stage, Vietnam's women's futsal team drew 0-0 with Iran, but it was a calculated match as both teams did not want to win the top spot in the group to avoid having to face Thailand or Japan.
In the remaining bracket, Thailand has a huge advantage. The representative of the Land of the Golden Pagodas will face Hong Kong (China) in the quarter-finals. This is no match for the team ranked 5th in the world. In the group stage, Hong Kong (China) easily lost 3-5 to the Vietnamese women's futsal team.
If they make it through the quarter-finals, Thailand will face the winner of the China vs Indonesia tie. Neither of these teams are a match for the War Elephants.
According to FIFA's allocation, Asia will have 3 places to participate (plus the host Philippines) in the World Cup. Therefore, Thailand has a bright chance to participate in this tournament. Meanwhile, the journey of Vietnamese futsal is quite bumpy.
