On November 9, Samsung announced its next mobile AI, called Galaxy AI. It will be available in the next generation of Galaxy devices. Through Galaxy AI, Samsung wants to provide a mobile AI experience that integrates both in-house and co-developed technology.
The South Korean tech giant has announced its mobile AI called Galaxy AI and the feature will be included in the next generation of Galaxy devices. It is expected to be installed on key models, starting with the high-end Galaxy S24.
A day earlier, Samsung introduced its self-developed generative AI model – Samsung Gauss – at the Samsung AI Forum. Gauss, named after a German mathematician, consists of three sub-models. These are the Samsung Gauss Language model, the Samsung Gauss Code programming assistant model, and the Samsung Gauss Image image generation model. Samsung will gradually install the generative AI models in various devices.
Choi Won-joon, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D, Mobile eXperience Division at Samsung, said that mobile technology has the incredible power to connect, work, create… for people around the world . However, mobile AI has yet to truly enable that. He himself assessed that Galaxy AI is Samsung's most comprehensive intelligent product and "will change the way we think about phones forever."
The real-time call translation function, AI Live Translate Call, is one of the key AI technologies that will be installed on the next generation of Galaxy phones. Users can use it without installing any other application. For example, when the caller speaks English, the conversation will be translated into Korean for the listener.
Samsung hasn't officially announced which languages will be supported, but based on the image the company provided, it seems the initial language pair will be English and Korean.
"AI Live Translate Call will soon provide Galaxy phone users with the latest AI-powered personal translator whenever they need it. Since it's built into the native call feature, the hassle of having to use third-party apps is gone. Audio and text translations will appear in real time as you speak, making calling someone who speaks another language as simple as turning on closed captions when watching a show online," Samsung added.
One of the biggest advantages of Galaxy AI is that it is implemented as a technology that operates right on the phone without connecting to an external server, so users don't have to worry about whether their calls are being routed to external servers.
