Speaking at the opening of the training course, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Van - Director of the Center for Journalism Training, Vietnam Journalists Association said that currently in Vietnam, many journalists and press agencies have made efforts to provide the public with timely information about groups vulnerable to discrimination in order to protect them, against all prejudice, bias and discrimination against them. However, many press agencies have not shown full concern and clarified misconceptions and eliminated social prejudices about groups that are often marginalized in society.
To overcome this situation, the joint participation of journalists and reporters is needed. Press agencies and journalists need to be responsible for protecting all members of society, fighting against discrimination in the role of providing appropriate, accurate and objective information to the public.
"Objective and accurate reporting will help raise public awareness of the rights of vulnerable groups; contribute to fighting discrimination and reducing social prejudice against them, thereby promoting a more inclusive and equal Vietnamese society," Ms. Van said.
