Nearly 500 people worked overnight to waterproof the foot of the Ma River dike

TPO - During the night, nearly 500 people transported sand and soil to fill in the foot of the Ma River dike in Vinh An commune, Vinh Loc district ( Thanh Hoa ) that was leaking due to floods.

On the morning of September 24, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh An Commune, Vinh Loc District, said that due to the influence of storm No. 4 and cold air, heavy rain occurred in the area, water from the upper Ma River rose, causing the dike through this commune to seep through the foot of the dike near the discharge culvert. After discovering the incident, from noon on September 23, the authorities urgently fixed it.

Accordingly, about 500 people including militia, military , police and people were mobilized, working all night using sandbags and boulders to handle the emergency on the dike.

"As of this morning (September 24), although the rain has stopped and the water has receded, people are still continuing to carry out the remaining steps to ensure safety on the dike," informed Mr. Nguyen Van Minh.

Hundreds of officers and soldiers actively participated in overcoming the problem of water seeping through the dike body.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Thoi, Deputy Chief of Staff of Thanh Hoa Provincial Military Command, said: “We mobilized 100 officers and soldiers on duty; 150 local militia and self-defense forces to closely coordinate with local authorities to reinforce both inside and outside the dike. Up to this point, the water seepage and leakage incident through the dike section of Vinh An commune, Vinh Loc district has basically been resolved. Today, the unit will strive to complete the dike reinforcement, ensuring safety for the people.”
